Oregons 34 ; Seal 1 1 1 * 'l M. 0. A. 10.
Although the ability of the Oregon«
to play banket hall had been clearly de
monstrated in the firet two games play
ed, there had been no aueh demand lor
a Hpurt as at Seattle.
Contrary to expectations the court
was a tine one, free from all obstructiohs
whatever. The team at Seattle is made
up of a good-sized, lanky bunch of men
that play a pretty steady game.
Probably as a result of the rough and
tumble game the night before the Ore
gonian« were «low to get into the game
and Seattle led off by «coring first and
kept a lead nearly the entire half, at one
time having the advantage by 13 to 9.
At the call of time the »core stood 13 to
13.
„ ,
When the whi«tle blew for the final
twenty minute« of play an entirely differ
ent chapter began. The home team was
now strictly “ up against it” when it
came to making any 2-pointer« while
for the Oregon« Reed threw five and
Fenton three. During the game two
lo n g shots helped the victors score one
by Reed the other by Shaw at guard,
Some of the spectators pronounced the
game the best played in Seattle in many
years.
( Iregons42: Roslyn Y. M. C. A. 17.
In tin* coal-mining town of Roslyn the
“ Oregon«” w ere put into a chicken-coop,
thedoorwaseloied, tlienit was play-bail.
Expecting high at one end and one side
there was no out-of-bound« at all, a gym
very unfavorable to a clean cut game.
The visitors . began from the first by
dropping them in lively fashion. The
miner« playod stubbornly but whenever
they started a little team play some long
wcli-foOter would reach up and pull down
n high one or some shorty like Ritw or
Morton would move in quickly and the
hall took its flight in a new direction.
This was the first game in which Itiee
played. He tossed three field goals and
eight foul baskets in twelve tries. Fen
ton made five field goals, N. Shaw six,
Morton three. Roseiyn caged eleven
out of seventeen foul tries and three
field baskets. After a good lead had
been secured the “ Oregon«” took mat
ters pretty easy.
Good feeling predominated through
out, The bovs began to feel pretty hun
gry a 1 lout this time, some saying ttiev
hadn’t had all they could eal“ «ince leav
ing Portland.”
Oregon« 57: Ellensburg3.
On a skating rink floor 93 feet between
baskets, the Oregon« here played what
might be justly called an exhibition
game for despite’ the fact that interest
ing mix-ups did at times occur, that’»
about all tiie game amounted to.
Fllciisburg started the ball rolling by
getting the first and lier only field goaf.
With the superior work of the Oregon»
the game «non developed into an exhi
bition of basket tossing in which Reed
getting nine. Fenton ten, X, Shaw four,
Morton one, C. Shaw one. The long
court made the center position a tiring
one and “ kept down the score.”
After the game the losers gave the
bbys a fine feed which made less un
pleasant the long wait for the 2:15 train
that night to Spokane.
Oregons 55 : Spokane Y . M C. A. 14.
The game at Spokane was an easy vic
tory for the Oregons. and was free from
all unpleasantness whatever.
In commenting on the game the
Spokesman Review said in part :
“ The Dallas team presented some
basket ball ttiat was was a revelation to
local exponents of the game. It W’as a
treat to watch a team like that of Dallas
work. Its everymember knows what
to do, seems to know just where every
other man of his team is, to know just
when to pass and when to shoot and is
deadly accurate in both shooting and
passing. They are quick-witted, fleet-
footed tall and powerful men. The Y.
>1. C A. played good basket ball for its
ability, but it was out classed.
The Dallas team is believed by many
critics to lie the strongest that lias ever
appeared in this city, not excepting the
Chicago Meteors, the O. A. C. team, the
Muscatine Y. M. C. A., the Minnesota
Red Wings and the W. S. C. team.
What it will do against the crack eastern
fives is a question. Critics here believe
it will easily win a majority of its games.
In the matter of basket throwing Mann
(forward) threw three, Pride (forward)
one, Ove (guard) one. For the Oregon®
Heed »hot »is, Fenton three, X. Sliaw
eleven, Morton live, t\ Hhaw, one.”
From Spokane a jump of 384 milea
waa made to liutte. the team arriving
about 3:30 at night, a short and pleasant
ride from here to the next scene of ac
tion, Anaconda.
Oregons 22: Anaconda 16,
In the Anaconda team the Oregon®
met the fastest aggregation thus far on
the trip, a bunch said to have playod to-
ether for five years and works together
n a good style of t>lay.
It was thought best on the part of the
management to shift the line-up slight
ly, Fenton going center and Rice forward.
Owing to being unused to the combina
tion partly and hard luck mostly the
Anaconda team took the lead from the
start holding it throughout the first half
•finishing 12 toff to the good. Thecrowd
was wild with excitement a victory
nearly in their grasp. The Oregons
thought otherwise.
When the second half began “ Pebo”
was found in the center ring and Fenton
back to his old station. Right off the-
reel the fire works began anti in about
five minutes play the score stood 13 to
12 with the “ Oregons” on the long end.
The good work for the Oregons was
kept going at both ends of the floor the
score growing gradually while the lid
was put down on Anaconda’s field bas
ket tossers so tightly they couldn.t get
a ohe to their credit. Rice dropped in
four out of five foul tries. Reed 2 fouls
and four field goals, N. Shaw one, Fen
ton three.
The boys played this game in an alti
tude of over 5300 feet and came through
none the worse off by it, ready for more.
Ain sending five games herewith, may
not play again until Thursday. Receiv
ed the Itemixers and thanks for same.
C. L. SHAW.
The above reached us just a few hours
too late for our last issue. We publish
it at this late date because so many of
the fans have told us that they desire to
preserve the clipping® in book form.

Tt is economical because it can be quickly turned off when not
needed. WiUi gas or kerosene there is the temptation to let light
burn, when not nets led, to save bother of lighting and adjusting.
In some homes the electric light bill amounts to only about $2 per
month. You can probably get some kind of artificial light for less
money than electric light, but does it save you anything when it
limits opportunities for work and recreation, ruins your eyesight,
smokes your walls, mars deeorations ami increases household work.
You can probably save a dollar tomorrow by going without your
meals, but it wouldn’t be eeonomy. It is not so much what you
save, but how you save, that counts. We are always ready to ex
