Judge Thompson came down from Seattle to spellbind
Portland voters. The judge bears the distinction of hav­
ing been a valiant Bryan spellbinder until he became an
attorney for a great railroad corporation, when he hastily
went republican. It was not a new feat, a long provision
of soldiers of democrat/ having marched up to the -same
c orporation feed trough, and thereafter become flaming
s words, as it were, in the other political camp. It is not
strange, but it is worthy of remark that Judge Thompson
got the habit. — Journal.

The democrats are in favor of taxing large incomes and
say so in their platform.
The republican platform says nothing.
The democrats favor the election o f U. S. senators by a
vote of the people.
The republican platform is silent. It was voted down.
The democrats are in favor o f taking the duties otf
trust controlled articles, high priced and unreasonable.
The republican platform says nothing on the subject and
the history of the party is against it.
The democrats are in favor of a reasonable tax on hanks
for the creation of a guarantee fund for the protection of
depositors, something which would make a panic impos­
