1— A new Record m ade of a new com position, by a new process an d playing an
average of m ore th a n four m in u te s.
T h is will be know n as th e E dison A m berol R ecord. Its m ost im p o rtan t
featu re is a recording th re a d of 200 lin es to th e inch, or tw ice as fine as th e
p resen t Record of 100 th re a d s. By th is m ean s m ore th a n twice th e p lay in g
length is secured w ith o u t in creasin g th e length o r d ia m e te r of th e Record itself.
Since th e finer th re a d reo u ired a sm a ller rep ro d u cin g po in t it becam e necessary
to find a new com position th a t would successfully resist th e we .r of th e sm aller
rep ro d u cer. T h e successful an d accu rate m oulding of a 200-thread R ecord,
form ed of a m uch to u g h er com position, also n ecessitated ch an g es an d refinem ents
in o u r m oulding process.
M ore th a n tw o years have been sp e n t in e x p e rim e n tin g to secure th ese resu lts,
th e w ork of several e x p e rts being co n stan tly d irected a n d sup erv ised by M r.
