WHY NOT PROTECT THE INDIVIDUAL.
The federal government requires of national
hanks a guarantee for the return of government
funds. County and municipal governments, as
a rule, require a similar guaiantee. But the
individual depositor lias no guarantee. And
freedom from bank runs and panics depends up
on the confidence which individual depositors
have in the safety Of their bank accounts. The
guaranteed deposit plan is, therefore, imperative
for the safety of the individual’s hard earned
savings and for the maintenance o f peace
A serious accident occured to M r. For
est M oyer at the Hawmill of the Polk
County Lum bering Company early yes
terday morning, which will cause the
young man to keen his bed for the next
six weeks at least. Just after going to
work in the morning it seems that a
«leaf mute shoved a lonir piece of 2x12
stuff into the edger, which instead of
going where it belonged, lit on the saw
aipl was hurled upward with terrific
force. Mr. M oyer was in its track ami
he was nearly sent through the roof of
the mill, breaking his thigh and cutting
hi in up considerable about the head.
Dr. Starbuck wa* phoned for and man*
age«! to catch the up train, arriving
there in good tim e to minister t.o the
sufferer. Mr. M oyer is aged about 22,
is married, and the accident will prove
a serious handicap to his work.
