T h eir son C h arlie is a governm ent clerk at W ashington city and his sister Lena teaches at Dundee with W a lle r B u t­ ler. W e found B. Pickens and G. G R em p el hauling in oak grub wood to •h ip to Portland, they g e ttin g $2.75 a cord on board the cars. T h e form er w ill send about 120 and the latter about 140 cords. Ben Jones was h au ling from the depot Falls C ity lum ber for an addition to his resi­ dence and his neighbor Benton Flan nery had just com pleted such an ad ­ dition. Miss Cox, of Eugene, who is vigjtin g Miss L illie Baxter, gave a splendid reading and the Kickreall orchestra consisting of John Koeer, Isaac G oodell, M is. Ed Heifarth and Miss A n gie Houthwick contributed largely to the success of the occasion. Enroute to M cCoy we passed the fine ranches of Mr J. M, W ise and Ed K eyt. Just o ff to tin north are the old Ira Townsend and Enoch Richardson places. Both of them have been under the sod for some years. T h e Richardson ranch is now the property o f D. L . Keyt. while J. H. and G N . Townsend live on their father's homestead, the for­ mer being in poor health hut able to get around. Mr. W ise has leased hi* big farm to Ira W h ite , who is one of the best farmers around. Mr. and Mrs. W ise ate now down looking af­ ter their crop interests but will soon return to Boise, Idaho, where they are aelling pianos and organs Eil K e y t is a th rifty farm er and generally comes out ahead iu his undertakings H e and Alex H olm es are engaged in buying and shipping sheep and hogs and make frequent shipments, the same being true of I P.
