The first anniversary of the Vern- dale colony of Siletz homesteaders was celebrated by a picnic in the city park at Dallas May 25th. At about 10 the families of E. L. Ingalls, A. W . Drown, Theo. Faringtou, Ira Kanlsy, Mrs. Hughes and Willie Caldwell as sembled in the grove, and by the time the camp tire was blazing Mr. Ingalls arrived with the provisions. The la dies were busy spreading the t» b e and at noon a bountiful dinner was served, all agreeing that Mrs. Ingalls knows just bow to make a chicken pie. The 1 o ’clock whistle blew till too soon that called Ira to the mill and Rots lo line work but the rest were busy talking over old times in Verndale and making plans for the future, as all present seemed of the one mind that Dallas is a good place to live, its people being kind and courteous to strangers and endeavor- i ig to make us all feel at home among them. The day was a beautiful one and the little folks enjoyed the out ing immensely, playing by the creek and gathering wild flowers which grew in abundance. Then Bert took a snap shot of the party as they were seated around to sing songs, visit aud have a general good time.
