THE POLK COUNTY ITEMIZER
N owhkhk in Oregon is much inter
est being taken in the coming elec
tion. The republican confidence of
success and lack of enthusiasm will
cost them many a vote.
T he apple crop in the east is prov
ing a comparative failure and in the
middle west the bulk of the crop is
rapidly rotting, which will make a
better price for Hist class Oregon ap.
pies. Let the growers in Polk county
make a note of these facts and profit
by them. All shrewd producers kecj
a cl<>se watch on the markets.
W hile this year's Oregon prime
crop liss been a paying one our state
will not get full credit for it as a big
per cent of it has been bought by par
ties interested in California fruit and
will be so labelled before it gets to tbo
eastern market.. The indications are
that the price for a choice article will
increase to betwee i 6 and 7 cents.
A ll the doubtful political states
have been thoroughly worked by
prominent speakers of both parties^
The present presidential storm center
is the state of New York, each party
segming to think that very likely as it
goes so will go the election. Both
Mr. Bryan and Mr. Roosevelt are
making a dozen or more speeches dai
ly in all parts of the state and (here

ing comes.
the eastern railroads having
Pacific coast connections have made
very cheap rates for settlers coining
west and and also cheap round trip
rates for those desiring to come out
on a trip of inspection. The result
will be that in a few weeks the north
west will be flooded with new people
spying out homes among us. Port-
and will bo the natural terminals for
a big per cent of them and many will
scatter all over the Willamette valley.
Let the people of Polk county be on
the lookout for them, extending cour
teous treatment and encouragement
to locate among us. Our county
could well support double its present,
population.
A ll
The pride of Polk county

Let it l>e our theme this day
The court house on the »quart*.
Not a man thin day will grieve
The dollar he is out
The bigger taxe» he doe» pay,
The louder he will shout.
All ha» helped to do this work,
Koch ha» done hi» »hare,
And now they view the grand result
The court hou»e on the square.
No longer stranger» taunt and jeer,

The old, old builditig lived and died
Behold a new one born
Within the wad» the law» sustained

The court house on the »quare.
The county court has done its part
To them all honor due
Three better men you could not find
Honest fair and true
Their work wua hard, they did it well
That, no one will deny.

The court house on the square.
Another word and then we’re done

Everything was fair
