TheAlhambr.i Club of linker City will be
in the city this evening and present the ex

gained (piite a reputation in linker where it
was twice presented last week, the second
evening's performance being more largely
attended than tho lirst. The play is a
good one and well cast, K. Paine as
Jack Kalston, the guide and scout, is
said to be excellent; in fact all the charac

citizens of linker, who have been In prac

citizens, whom we hope will turn out and
give the company a good house. The com

Mr. Harrison might well have cried
"save mo from mv friends," when the
negro ex-congressman, .1. M. Langs
ton, got himself interviewed for the
purpose of saying that the main issue
of the next campaign would be tho
"foice bill," and that Mr. Harrison
was the strongest living advocate of
j that measure, and more of the same
sort. It is only necessary for Mr. Har
rison to endorse this position to kill
himself as dead as if he never hud ex
isted. The domocratio national com
mittee would probably pay Liingston
to keep it up on (his line, as they aro
just hankering to make the 'foieu bill"
one of tho issues of the campaign.
The State department has placed n
special train at tho disposal of the di
plomatic corps, and yesterday morn
ing all of the countries who.o repre
sentations happened to he in town
were figuratively put aboard a Pull
man and started for Chicago, where
they will he shown what 1ms been
done towards the great exposition. It
is expected that this visit will be pro
ductive of much good.
Director General Davis, of the
World's Fair, was here this week con
sulting with department olllcials as to
the government exhibit at the exposi
tion, and perfecting arrangements for
sending a commission abroad for the
purpose of interesting foreign manu
facturers and merchants in the expo-i-tion.
Ho says success is already as
sured. If it be true that Hon. Charles 10.
Mitchell, commissioner of patents, will
shortly retire, as is generally believed
here, the poor inventors of the country
will lose a good triend, as he has just
shown by changing the rules of prac
tice so as to make it impossible for
examiners in tho patent oilice to reject
applications that ought to be granted
and thou afterwards as patent attor
neys get a fee from the same applicant
for getting through what should have
properly gone through on its merits in
the first place. The new rule prohib
its any person who has been employed
in the patent oilice appearing as agent
or attorney in any case upon which
he has taken any action while so em
ployed, and is commended by every
one except the men it is intended to
hit the ox-examiners now practicing
as attorneys.

respects to Mr. Harrison. Ho had an
interview with Mr. Daniels, editor of
tho State Chronicle of Kaloigh, Nortli

said Senator Poller, "will most assur
edly nominate a national ticket next
year, and if wo gather our forces as
well all over tho country as we did in
Kansas wo can easily elect a president
and congress in 1892."
"Is it not better," said .Mr. Daniels,
for alliance men in tho South to re
main in the democratic party in order
to provont the domination of the
negro?"
"Wo do not care anything about
that," replied tho senator; "wo want
to destroy both old parties unless they
will help us. It is not a part of our
progranuno to tamper with either.
Wo cannot concern oursolvos with
such matters. It is time that sootion-

people who aro tired of this policy of

join hands in friendship and make a
union that is worth maintaining, and
which will not havo to bo pinned to

need any assistance in adjusting their

Will you allow mo to ask a few ques

In a recent issue of the Chroniclo
H. C. Kmory attacks tho Dible, as ho
thinks, from a scientific standpoint.
He says: "Scionco and philosphy
demonstrate that tho iitmosphoro ro

conditions of heat and cold, and yet it
is not and never has been capablo of

Now if what ho says is truo wo will
