Gentlemen: I have been a sufferer from
kidney complaint for severnl years, and

duced to buy a bottle but without much
faith. After italic the first bottle I no
ticed such an improvement I kept on until
I had taken three bottles, and ran safely
say that I am entirely cure 1 and never felt
better in my Hfe. I can gladlv recommend
the Great Sierra Kidney and Liver Cure to
all people that are sum-ring i any wa

IRISH COUNTRY LIFE.
Th Most Enjoyable KiUtonco h Sinn of
leisure Cun I.eml.
On the whole, the Scotch and Irish aro
more ploasant, particularly to a sports
man; the- English moro dignified, or, I
might say, magnificent, on account of
tho sizo and appointments of the man
sions, and the old historical surround
ings. A groat Irish house is moro home
ly and genial. Tho host and hostess
g onorally talk bettor; they put mora
. stress upon their out-of-door appoint
ments; thoy have better, or rath or moro
interest. ng, gardens; bottor-brod horses,
and are readier to put thorn at your dis
posal. Tho Irish country house is more
natural. If you havo not had early
breakfast ordered, and arranged over
night for an early start, you como down
to breakfast any hour you ltko within
reasonable limits (9-10:30). You will
. ffonerally find two or throo little
tables ready, various hot things at tho
fire, cold things on tho sideboard. You
will find threo or four poople at break
fast, others gone, some not down. The
eorvants only como when sum
moned. Every body walks round
and holps himself. You aro asked
at breakfast what you would liko
to do. Will you fish, or shoot,
or hunt, or drivo, according to tho sea
son, and tho professed object of your
visit? You aro asked what shall bo sent
out with you for lunch. You will be
sent in a dog-cart or other carrlago, and
omo of ttio guests, or tho host, will ac
company you. If you are a real sports
man, you will work as hard all day as if
you depended upon it for your dinner,
and, indeed, in one sonso you do, for
you will gain un appetite worth a dinner
by itM'lf. You bring your own guns,
rods, hor.-cs, eta, if you oomo for the
purposo of sport; if you are a fashion
able man, you bring your own servant.
15ut if any sudden chance arises, if you
happen to come unprepared, there is al
ways somo moans of fixing you up for a
day's enjoyment In this way you come
to know tho neighborhood as only sports
men can know it; you will study th
hills, the woods, the pools in tho river
with a deoper interest than mere ouri'
oslty, when you know that your success
dopendn upon understanding those
things. J. P. Mabaffy. M. A., in Chau

our existence as tho food wo eat and the

serious one. Private talk or conversa

What is Scrofula
It Is that Impurity In tho blood which, nccumit

running sores on the arms, legs or feet; which
develops ulcers in tho eyes, ears or nose, often
causing blindness or deafness; which is tho ori

BeTernt Kind of Mothers.
Tho mother represented tho family
sovereignty: the father was seldom seen,
and he connted for littlo or nothing
among tho outside boys. It was tho
mother who could say whether a boy
might go fishing or in swimming, and
6he was held a good mother or not ac
cording ns she habitually said yes or no.
There was no other standard of goodness
tor mothers in tho boy's world, and
could bo none: and n bad mother might
be outwitted by any device that the
other boys could suggest to her boy.
Such a boy was always willing to listen
to any suggestion, and no boy took it
hard if the other fellows made fun when
their plan got him into troublo at home.
If n boy came out after somo such ex
perience with his face wet. nud his eyes
red, and his lips swollen, of course you
had to laugh: he expected it, and you
expected him to stone you for laugliing.
When a boy's mother had company,
he went and hid till the guests were
gone, or only came out of concealment
to get some sort of shy lunch. If the
other fellows' mothers wero there, he
might be it little bolder, and bring out
cake from the second table. But ho had
to be pretty careful how he conformed
to tiny of tho usages of grown up society.
A fellow who brushed his hair, and put
on shoes, and came into the parlor when
there was company, was not well seen
among the fellows: he was regarded in
somo degree its a girl bov; a boy who
j wished to stand well with other boys
as far ns tho kitchen to get things for his
guests in the back yard. Yet there wero
mothers who would make a boy put on
a collar when they hud company, and
disgrace him before the world by mak
ing him stand round and help: they
acted ns though they had no sense and
no pity; but such mothers were rare.

Ilaving resolved to "paint" n book,
for tho Japanese uso a brush and not a
pen, tho mtthor betakes himself to his
workroom. It is a httlo room, a very
littlo room.
Tho author sits on tho floor in a flow
ing garment of brown silk, lined with
blue, his legs disposed comfortably
under him. In front of him stands a
lacquered table, about a foot square,
and upon it are his writing materials,
which- are ns idyllic ns his surround
ings his paper is delicately tinted yel
low, with blue lines running up and
down.
His inkstand is ii carved ebony slab,
with one end hollowed out for water to
rub his cube of india ink in, and holds
tho four or five daintily decorated bam
boo brushes which are his pens. Nat
urally he does not write his novel, ho
paints it.
Beginning at the end of tho whole, at
tho left of every page and ut the top of
every line, straight down between tho
two bluo parallels his small brown hand
goes with quick, delicate, dark touches.
Although the novelist's "copy" might
seem to a stranger to bo daintiness it
self, yet he always has it duplicated "by
an artist" before sending it to tho pub
lishers, tho success of tho book depend
ing so largely upon its artistic form.
The "artist" to whom tho "copy" is now
intrusted proceeds to repaint the long
series of word pictures with n profes
sional dexterity which is something as
tonishing. New York Journal.
Some One, Swallowed tho Tooth.
I heard a rather amusing story of a
number of young people who assembled
a few days ago at tho homo of a charm
ing young lady somewhero in tho eastern
part of tho city for a quiet little game nt
cards. During tho prrvress of the even
ing one of tho girls produced her bon
bonniere, which passed in succession
around tho merry circle until its tiny lid
closed only on tm aching void and thf
delicate flavor of Italian mint. When
the pretty box was returned empty to its
owner, the delicate suffusion of her
flushed brow faded to a ghastly pallor us
6ho cried, "Where's my shark's tooth? 1
had it in this bonbonniero." Then tho
pallor went around as visions of tho gas
tronomic impossibilities of tho situation
dawned on those who had partaken of tho
contents of tho box somebody had
swallowed tho wisdom molar of a man
eating carcharias vulgaris, but who?
Nobody knows to this day, but thero was
a sense of uneasiness about tho little
gathering thereafter that fell liko a pall
over tho general jollity. Louisville Post.
Celluloid Silk.
In discussing tho latest development
in the lino of eilk imitation, an English
contemporary says: "Celluloid 'silk' is a
cleverly fabricated tissue, which ought
to be repressed by common consent, or,
If necessary, by parliamentary prohibi
tion. Nothing 60 useful to dishonest
dealers nnd so dangerously inflammable
has hitherto been invented in tho way of
clothing. It is certainly cheap and hn'nd
6ome, nnd is therefore moro tempting to
tho thoughtless, or tho defrauded, who
may bo induced to buy as 'silk a mate
rial which a spark would inflame, and
which would bunt with the fierceness of
a rag steeped in petroleum. It may be
in tho future possible tb lesson this in
flammability, but tho small samplo re
ferred to went off liko a flash, and wo
may assume it was as fireproof as can at
tho present time bo inudo."
