THE .PIONEER.
Oyer plain nnd priilrie,
Through the mountain pass,
Aiwnys necessary,
"Water, wcodiuul grass."
Prospects oddly luiriiished
Where no fuel growh,
Chips nre kindly furnished
Jty the hitll'alocM.
On tho (Insert dreary,
Neither gram or hay,
0.!i g.-owing weary,
Falling by the way.
Westward still proceeding,
Ilroncho and a stcier,
Looking for an Eden,
Comes the pioneer,
On his wagon printed,
Hidden by the dust,
Destination hinted,
"Oregon or bust.''
Reaches mountain yalley,
Money gutting low,
Thinks he'd better dally
There a month or so.
Country fast improving,
Year.s have passed away.
Tired of always moving,
Settled there to May,
Never failing rations
Whiskey and cigars,
All his poor relations
Coming on the cars.
Loafing in retirement,
Travels on a pass;
Still arc his requirements
"Water, wood and grass"
widows.
