"Wo have received some documents sent
out by thoyeUon seed oil producers to ex
pose tho'nianner in which lard is made for
theiharkot. The matter is said to be com
posed of evidenco taken from the congress
ional committecof agriculture, and it makes
a man sea sick to read it. Tho mothods
used in making this article arc almost as
nauseating as those used by La Grande in
securing votes.
A grand auction sale of thoroughbred
short horn cattle will take placo in this
city on the 14th inst. They were brought
in this week by Mr. O. W. Parsoll, of

The section house at tho dopot, occupied

There isn't and never was the faintest trace
color or shade of prejudice about us, says
tho Beviow, but dot rot our American hide
if wo would believo under oath a witness
who pronounced route "rutc," and may wo

inherit our great aunt or granUinother for
marrying a native born idiot who would oiit
rago his ancestry by substituting cythcr
and nythcrforthegood old fashioned North
American pronunciation of either and
neither.

For want of space, Inst week, wc were
unable to give as full an account of the
pioneer meeting in this city as wo
wished. Some of the matter that was
omitted will still be of interest.
Following is the beautiful ami appro
priate poem, written ami rend by Judge
Brainard :
Tin: oi.D riONinins.
And here you all are.
We are glad you have come
Buchel. Hannah and Susan.
John, Bud, Hen and Tom;
Green. Jim, Josh and Hilly:
Sam, Dunham and .lake.
Put it tharr, bovs, tharr;
Let us" shake ! "Let us shake;
Wo greet you to-day
With three hearty cheer.
Hurrah for the gallant
Bravo old pioneerj.
The tenderfoot comes
And he ru-hes around.
From Grande Hondo to Portland
Spokane, nnd the Sound.
Ami he never once nods
To you, I or .Jim,
And I guess we don't worry
A mill dam for him.
His head is swelled big
For a million Ibis year,
But his heart is too small
For an old pioneer.
They say that back cast,
Bo you wealthy or poor,
You may live half a score
At your neighbor's next door;
That you'll pass and repass
Every day in the week,
Look gruni, cold and sour
And neither one pcnk.
If you differ in politics,
Faith, party or creed
Away with all friendship:
Stick to nickels and greed
It's la mode in the east
But 'twill never do here,
For that'.- not the stylo
of the old pioneer.
Arc tho neighbor folks sick,
You II find Manda there,
And Harriet some dainty
Will surely prepare,
Lou ami Jim will be 'round
With their kindest regard,
With hearts just as soft
As their old bauds are hard.
If an emigrant lacks
A roof o'er his head,
Hoes his wife need assistance,
His children want bread,
Where will he appeal
AY'hcn trouble appears?
Of course, to (ho hearts
Of the old pioneers.
No doubt in the lands
Of the ultra mountain,
There are matrons and maids
Men's hearts to enchain,
As fair as the lillies
That bloom in their vales.
And as sweet as the scents
The red rose exhales,
But tho tints of the sky
In the east, at their best,
Never beam like the beauties
That glow in the west.
Hats off! How low, boys!
Hero smile our own dears
The daughters and wives
Of the old pioneers.
Now hale and farovvcll !
To the ones that are gone;
Kvery month in tho year
Some of us pass on.
Wav out on the plains
Marching on to the west,
And over the sea
To the iIes of tho blost
And they say it's a country
Tho fairest yet found,
E'en surpassing in beauty
The vale of Grando Hondo.
With never a mortgage.
A tax or a rent,
Where wo all can got claims
That don't cost a cent:
Where the lord of the Isles
In splendor appears,
With a welcoming smile
To the old pioucor.
Following arc the rules adopted by
the association :
