FULLY ANSWERED
Subscriber's" Query Causes Comment.
As our renders will remeinW, a letter
was published in our columns a few days
nt:o, signed "Subscriber" which dwelt at
some length uioii a subject of general
interest, and which contained several
inquiries which will be found answered
in the following:
To the Editor: Several days ago I
noticed a communication in your paper
from "Subscriber," in which considerable
comment was indulged in concerning the
pamphlets which are widely distributed
by Slessrs. II. II. Warner & Co , of
Kochester, X. Y. These pamphlet., as is
well known, are published in order that
the public may become convercant with
the svnintoms" and growth of disease
peculiar to the kidneys, and which is, it '
must bo admitted, the productive cause, I
in a majority of instances, of other
organic disorders. The publishers of
these pamphlets are also the discoverers ,
and manufacturers of the noted Warner's
Safe Cure, which is known tobo the only
means for the prevention and cure of'
kidney disease, as can be testified to in
every community. In the pamphlets
referred to there appear a number of
testimonials from parties who speak in i
the hL'liest terms of how they have in '
many instances been restored to health ,
bv AVarncr's Safe Cure, after having been '
given up by doctors to die, and attached ,
to those statements are the ac simile i
signatures of the parties themselves. I
I am personally aware that all the,
testimonials published by this firm are'
genuine and are tho voluntary statements
of persons who are anxious to manifest
their gratitude for the unexpected return 1
of health and vigor which Warner's Safe
Cure has brought them. To make assur-,
ance doubly sure, it can be added that
Messrs. II." II. Warner it Co., have for
years published a standing oiler of $5000
to anyone who will prove to an impartial
referee that any testimonial published by
them is not, so far as they know, liona I
fide and absolutely true. What more ,
does "Subscriber" desire to convince j
him, in addition to his own statement, 1
that his neighlors all tell him that
Warner's Safe Cure has done more good
for them than they have received from !
the doctors. "
In view, Mr. Editor, of the many per-
sons who are sacrificed daily to the,
bigotry and ignorance of physicians who 1
persist in treating patients for symptoms,
called consumption, apoplexy, brain j
troubles, and nervous disorders when the i
real cause is disease of the kidneys j
which should be detected anil quickly ,
eradicated by the use of Warner's Safe 1
Cure I maintain that the value of those ,
pamphlets, which place in the hands of;
the public the means of knowing the I
truth, cannot be overestimated. .

Somo years ago a writer whoso name,
unfortunately, wo can not recall, pub
lished a thoughtful article, fully illus
trated, on that old and vexatious ques
tion of how to keep the boys on tho
farm. o do not now recall much of
this able paper except tho pictures, of
which there were several. One of these
represented tho boy whom it was
thought desirable to keep on the farm
confined in a burglar proof room, with
heavy bars on the windows, etc.
Tho author argued that there win
nothing better to keep a boy away
from tho temptations and snares of
city life than this. Another showed
the boy with a stout chain passed
around his body and tho other end
fastened to the stove- This was highly
recommended for making boys feel at
tached to the farm. Still another
represented the boy placed in easy re
clining position, and a considerable
pile of bricks heaped on his logs. The
writer clearly demonstrated that there
was nothing which had a greater ten
dency to make a boy cling to tho old
homestead.
We know not but this author may
have written partly in a spirit of levi
ty; certainly some of his plans are
novel, and wo never heard that any of
them were ovor put into actual use.
Wo do not eon-dder them practical,
however beautiful they may be in
theory, and if not adapted to tho suc
cessful keeping of a boy on the farm
how much less use would thoy or any
thing of oven a remotely similar nat
ure bo in restraining an impetuous
young lady bent on Hying with a young
mau to somo accommodating and en
terprising justice of tho peace. Tho
notorious failure of stono walls and
iron bars to miiko either a prison
or a cage was sung of long ahu, and
nowhere will their inadequacy ba More
noticeable than when they aro em
ployed in an attempt, to restrain a girl
from eloping whoa her heart is sot
on it.
The best and only suro way to pre
vent the elopement and frequently
break oil' tho match entirely is, wo b
liove, to watch carefully, and when
the.young man appears to carry oil
his romantic bride, whether ho comes
onawhito palfrey and puts up a ladder
to her window, as ho should do. or
only jumps off a street-car and meets
her in a candy store at this stu.ro of
tho proceedings, wo say, lot tho farmer
put in an appearance and produce a
minister, either from within the
shadow of tho porch or from tho rear
of the confectionery establishment and
tarry a moment while tho good mau
makes them one.
This v,' 11 break up tho olopemont
nnd in a groat many instances prevent
tho marriage entirely, and the mis
guided young folks will frequently
conclude they do not wish to bo
married as badly as thoy imagined,
this plan pretty effectually kills off
the romance. Thero is nothing
romantic, we suppose, about standing
up in tho middle of a candy storo and
getting married, while tho sales
ladies tittor and chow gum and cus
tomers drop in and wink at ono
another. Lot tho fathers of tho coun
try try this plan on their oloping
daughters and see if it is not success

Truth is struiioi- tlitin liction, nnd
when next you hoar or rend an impos

u well-known authoress to tho nuiTii
top at a London dinner party, "C5o it,
Ananias," you had butter qulotly ob
serve, "I suppose it's true." Anyhow,
wo aro apt to scout tho stories o
women who have concealed their sex
the better to perforin doughty deeds
of va'or, and lo! here aro French sta
tistics, with their dry facts, coming to
prove that what novelists and poets
have written has not been evolved
from their inner consciousness, but
from tho romunen of history. Thirty
four French women have been deco
rated with tho Legion of Honor sineo
the order was instituted, and of the-'o
seven distinguished themselves on tho
buttle-liold. Two women soldiers were
decorated under tho first empire, ono
having dressed as a man to roplaoo

ing discovered when she was wounded,
after attaining tho rank of sergeant.
Tho second horoino took to lighting
because she liked it, and distinguished
herself at Yoinnmpor, Austerlitz and
Jena. Save for one bravo vivandiero,
the -o was a blank from 18l.r to 18.01, and
then came more military women, whoso
exploits would read like an after-dinner
story. Whether these women
were or wore not unsexod by thiu
abandoning their proper sphere is not
the point at all; tho fact remains that
women have military qualities capable
of efficient training should need arise;
and in a country whero tho perils of
war, tho lack of an army and tho vol
unteer question are being debuted, it is
just as well to recognize the fact that
if National questions aro at etnko it be
