Tbo great Tom Paine quartz mine,
situated in Pocahontas, is constantly
taking out ore and will commence
crushing in their stamp mill on Mar
ble creek at once.
McMurrcn it Co1 are constantly tur
ning logs into lumber. They havo a
splendid mill situa'cd on Pine creek,
with n vast amount of timber in reach.
They lind it nearly impossible to sup
ply the demand they havo for lumber.
Chambers Place it Co. arc once
more running their lime kiln iu full
blast. They work Chinamen, princi
pally. The lime trade is looming up,
and they will,no doubt, havo to enlarge
their works, in order to supply the de
mand. The Nelson Mining Company are
now working their extensive placer
mine, on Salmon creek, day and
night. 'I hey are running two largo
monitors and washing away the banks.
The pipes are 22 inches at tbo head
and the water runs through a Mx inch
nozzle and will carry, at the least cal
culation, two thousand inches of water.
They havo a I5S0 foot pressure. It is
tbo best outfit for mining wo have ev
er seen. Electric lights are. used at
night.

Paris is the name of a new town site
that has been located in Malheur coun
ty, about mx miles above Vale. It will
put in its claims for the county seat at
