Misy Ktelln Allen, of Grant county, hits been employed to teach the "Cen ter Valley" school in District 7.'5. Our neighbors on the North in the Kiisscl dmtrk't lmve treated thenn-clves to a twelve hundred dollar brick school house. It is about completed. We have u "painful reineniliranco" that niter a former tittsiek of thit kind a "solitary horseman" might have been t-cen approaching with u four year old club to nt present our nutne is Tho 'Hamilton and Imbler steam thresher has just finished u very suc cessful season's run, threshing in one day as much as 2.r00, and in all about eighty thousand bushels of grain. C. W. is as much tho right, man in tho r ght place around n threshing ma chine as A. N. is wakening up an old "buck number" tax" payer. Quite a freak of nature occurred on tho Sand llirigu this summer. Mr. A. 15. Conlcy, who put in '2")00 acres of grain last spring, found after the hard frost in Juno that to von or eight hun dred acres had been to totally de stroyed that it couldn't even ho found where the ground was ploughed. A. 15. is on thi- "rustle" and dont allow a little frost work like that to bother him. Last week a young man of Island City waB induced to swallow an over doio of "Jersey lightning" with an idea th.it it was "15ible temperance." Ho nearly threw up Ids inmott toul before tho Dr. arrived. That young chap can probably brighten up an old weather beaten spot on his conscience by joinging tho prohibition band. If you think we aro all a sot of cranio, try to turn us and sco. Notwithstanding that discouraging accounts were given of Ibland City s future prospects last spring, the seems to havo about as much business about her as any of her sister cities, although the is tho smallest one of the family. At tho largo establishment of tho M. it M. Co., three clerks are kept continu ally on tho "get there Eli" and to tho w.iiting customer. they nowr Etom to get there cither. U hat on you k iow, and how do von know it? "Ity the books, bv the books " What h ive von losta. dhowcanvou -how-it? "By th bo ks. by the b ioks." We'vo Ix-en attending Circuit court and our fct'bht mind has been consid erably overbalanced by iho "prej on deranco of testimony," and wo find ouselves G. W. like trying to hatch out very difficult problems with a very little "hutehot." An old bovine kicked us on tho leg, causing us to have tho "swing your corner limp" of tho Diftriut Attorney. At times wo li.ive dilli uliy in getting the impeach ing quest) ms in proper thape with time, place, poisons, etc., but wheio tliH mania chiefly shows it self is in i being continually harria-ed by that ovurwulhmiugly convincing testimony 'by the books, by tho books."
