ixml the little nnxicty the people display In
tlio conduct if busitieKS affairs. "Men
boast here," he snid, "that they work for
years without a day oil; in Europe, that
would be considered a crime."
Mr. II. II. Warner, who was present at
the time, said, "This is tho lirst summer in
years that I have not spent on the water.
Ilcen too busy."
"Then, I suppose you havo been adver
tising extensively?"
"Not nt all. We have always heretofore
closed our laboratory during July, August
and September, but tUU summer wo havo
kept it rtmnins day and night to supply
the demand, which hns been three times
greater than ever before in our history
at tliis season."
"How do you account for this?"
"The increase lim come from the uni
versal recognition of tho excellence of our
preparations. We havo been nearly ten
years beforo tho public anil the sales aro
constantly increasing while our newspaper
advertising is constantly diminishing.
Why, high scientillc and medical nutliori
itios, now publicly concede that our War
ner's safe euro U tho only scientillc specific
for kidney and liver diseases and forull the
many diseases caused by them."
"Have you ovidonco of this?"
"Abundancel Only a few weeks ngo Dr.
J. 1j. Stephens, of Lebanon, Ohio, a special
ist for the euro of narcotic, etc., habits told
i no that a number of eminent scientific
medical men had been experimenting for
ycais, testing and analyzing all known
lemedius for tho kidneys and liver, for, as
you may be nwurc, the excessive uso of all
narcotics and stimulants destroys those
organs, and until they can bo restored to
health tho habits ciinuot bo broken up!
Among tho investigators were such men as
J. M. Hall, M. U., President of tho State
Ifoard of Health of Iowa, nud Alexan
mider Neil, M. I)., I'rofessor of Surgery
in the college of Physicians and Surgeons
and president of tlio Academy of Medicine
at Columbus, who, after exhaustive in
quiry, reported that there was no remedy
known to schools or to scientific inquiry
equal to Warner's safo cure!"
"Are many persons addicted to tho uso
of deadly drugs?"
"There aro forty millions of peoplo in the
world who two opium alone, ami there are
ninny hundreds ot thousands in this coun
try who aro victims of morphine, opium,
quinine and cocoaiuo. They think they
havo no such habit about them so many
people aro unconscious victims of these
habits. They have pains and symptoms
of what they call malaria and other dis
eases, when in reality itis the demand in the
system for these terrible drugs, a demand
that is railed largely by physicians' pro
scriptions which contain so many danger
ous drugs, and strong spirits, and one that
must bo answered or silenced in tlio kid
neys and liver by what I)r- Stephens says
is tlio only kidney ami livor specific. Ho
also says that moderate opium and other
drug caters, if they sustain the kidney and
liver vigor with that great remedy, can
keep up these habits in moderation."
"Well, does not this discovery give you
a new revelation of thepower-ot saTo cure?"
"No, sir; for yo.irs 1 havo tried to con
vince the public that nearly all tho diseases
of tho human system originato in somo dis
order of the kidneys or liver, hence I havo
logically declared that if our specific were
Ubed, over ninety per cent, of theso ail
ments would disappear. T lie liver and kid
neys seem to absorb these poisons from the
blood and become depraved and diseased."
"When theso eminent authorities thus
publicly admit that there is no remedy liko
ours to enable the kidneys and liver to
throw off the frightful effects of all deadly
drugs ami excessive uso of stimulants it is
an admission of its power as great as any
one could desire; for if through its influence
alone the opium, morphine, quinine, cocaine
and liquor habits can be overcome, what
higher testimonial of its specilic power
could be asked for?"
"You really believe, then, Mr. Warner,
that the majority of diseases come from
kidney and liver tomplaiuts?"
"I dol When you see a person moping
and groveling abo.it, half dead and half
alive, year after year, you may surely put
liim down as having somo kidney and liver
trouble."
"Tho other day I was talking with Dr.
Fowler, tho eminent oculist of this city,
who said that half tho patients who came
to him for eyo treatment wore affected by
advanced kidney disease. Now many poo
j!q wonder why in middle life their eye-sight
bei'otno so poor. A thorough course ol
treatment witli Warner' a safo cure is what
they need more than a pair of ove-glasses.
The kidney poison in the blood always at
tacks the weakest part ol the body; with
some it affects the eyes; with others tho
head; with others the stomach orthelungs,
or rheumatic disorder follows and neural
gia teurs them to pieces, or they lose the
powers of taste, smell, or become impotent
in other functions of tho body. What man
would not give his all to havo tho vigor of
youth at command?"
"The intelligent physician knows that
these, complaints are but symptoms; they
are unt thv disorder, and they nro sym
tonis not of disease of the head, the eye or
stomach, or of virility, necessarily, but ol
the kidney poison in the blood and they
may prevail and no pain occur In the kid
nejB." It is not strange that the enthusiasm
which Mr. Warner dUplays in his appre
ciation of his own remedy, which restored
him to health when the doctors Mild he
could not lire six months, should become ,
infectious and that the entire world should
pay tribute to lt power. For as Mr. War
ner says, the sales are constantly increas
ing. hile the newHpnper advertising is con
stantly dlmliiUhitij. This speaks volumes
in prais of the extraordinary merits of his
repurutlous.

A Postoflice Money Order.
Oho of tlio reasons that imluct'tl nio to
lmvo a riMiiittnuco sent to Atlantic City
in tlio wav of a postoflice money order
was the fact that the express company
or a bank would demand personal iden
tification. Almost every body is cer
tain of his own identity, but when it
conies to some one else being certain
tho case assumes a ilitVonnt aspect,
especially if a sum of money is con
cerned. However, this great and glori
ous government, in its praisworthy
desire to help a stranger in a strange
land out of a bad box. will permit a
friend to deposit money in one pot
ollieo and let you draw it out at another.
The man at tlio dusk will ask you who
sent it, provid.ngyou aro a stranger to
him, and when you havo replied that
tho sender was John Smith, your
brother-in-law, and a good fellow gen
erally, and that ou have been expect
ing tlio order for two days, and that
the folks around the hotel can no long
er look upon you without suspicion ho
will hand it over without a doubt that
3011 are tho person for whom it it was
intended. It's a nice. oay way, you
see, and tin; bank teller anil express
agents are awfully put out because they
can no longer bluiV strapped strangers.
"I have a little order." I said to the
monuv-order clerk as I went back into
his den.
T-c s," ho grudgingly replied as lw
received it. "Is tins votir name?"
Yes."
"Who was it sent bv?"
"John Doe, of Detroit."
"Yos urn! You'll have to bo identi
iio I!"
Why so? Haven't I told you who
it was sent by. and didn't 1 receive it
in this letter" directed to me and de
posited in a box which I rent here?"
"Yes, but "
"If this isn t my name how do I get
the. letters addros-ed to it? If 1 am
somebody elo what right have you to
hand mc another persons' mail?"
"1 know, but you must he identified."
"Hut there isn't a person hero who
knows me. and I am deadbroke and
far from homo."
"Can't help that."
"And you won't pay?"
"Not unless you are identified.1'
1 went back to tlio hotel and asked
tho clerk if lie would identify mo.
"Well, 1 don't know on, you see."
"15ut ain't I registered, and haven't
I been here for several days?"
"Oh, yes. but ou might havo as
sumed this man's name, .ott sue. Peo
ple often do that."
"Well, como up and look over my
trunk. Look at these half dozen en
velope?. (Jo ask my w.fe who I am.
"Yos, but you must excuse me. It's
against orders, jou know."
'Orders bo nanged! I owo you .'?30;
hero's an order for ?oO. E.ther help
mo to got it cashed or I'll walk oil' with
your bill unpaid."
Ho concluded to identify mo. He
wroto a note to the postmaster to tiie
efl'eet that ho believed tlio bearer was
the person named in the order, and I
returned to tho postotlieo, shoved tho
note through tho Window and asked:
"Well, what do you think of that?"
The- clerk looked at the signature,
scratched his head, and niiiscd:
"Hogus, of tlio (iilsoy House? Wiio
in Halilax is Hoggs?"
"Perhaps you want him identified?"
I asked.
"I do." he cooly replied as ho handed
tlio note back. "Can't say that 1 ever
heard of Hoggs."
Something was sa'.d about some one
cett ng licked if ho wou.d como out
doors, but ho wouldn't coino. 1 went
back and lold Hoggs tlio result and ho
looked at 1110 11 a vacant way and replied
"Mo not Hoggs? Well, lie may be
right. Wo can't take no chances here."
Next day 1 went down after the mail,
having determined to lot tho order
cash itself. Thero was a card in the
box asking mc to call at tho money-order
office, and when 1 showed up the
clerk said:
"Who sent you that order?"
"John Doe!"
"Where docs ho live?"
"Detroit."
"Oli ah, I guess it's all right, hut
you'll have to get your money at tho
bank across tho way."
"Are you .sure I'm the man?"
"You may or may not be, but we'll
cash iL"
Ho gavo mo an order 011 tho bank,
and I stepped across and handed it to
tho pa ing teller.
"Y-e-s," ho said as ho seised it,
"you'll havo to bo identified."
'"What!"
"Havo to bo identified!"
"I'll be durneil if I do! I just got
that order from tho money clerk, who
kept me out of it three days, and I don't
propose to fool away any" 111010 time!"
"Can't help it."
"Will you come out doors?"
"No, sir!"
"Will you let me in thero?"
"No, sir!"
I was going out. leaving tho order in
ids hands when Hoggs came in. I told
him of the d.iliculty, and he said to tho
cashier:
"It's all right I know him."
"Hut I don't know ok.'" replied tho
toller.
Hoggs then offered to fight him in
side or outside the railing, and after
we had got tlio Hoard of Directors out
nnil a crowd around the door somo one
canio in who identified Hoggs. Hoggs
identified me, tho teller handed over
the money, and the postmaster, whom
I mot at the door, paralyzed everybody
by calling out:
"HelloT Mr. King, did you get that
monoy all right?"
Hoggs almost fainted away, and tho
teller shouted forme to return, but I
clipped into the crowd and got safely
away. 1. Quad, in Detroit Free Press.

SUNDAY AND SUN-WORSHIP.
A Vorm of VnganlMii 'I lint ltcnclici
Illicit to tho Prehistoric Period.
Sun worship is the oldest and mot
wide-spread form of pagan. $111. It
reaches back to the prehistoric period.
Under various phases it has always
been the persistent foe to the worship
of Jehovah. It was the prevailing and
most corrupting form of idolatry which
assailed the Hebrew nation. Its low
est form. Haul-worship, produced the
deepest social and moral degradation.
As the per od of idolatry passed away,
sun-worship assumed a less materialis
tic form, without losing the virulence
of its poison. It lay iu waiting, like a
beast of prev. to corrupt Christianity,
as it had already corrupted Judaism.
Transferred fiom the cast, and from
Hg pt, to (Ireeco and Homo, it became
populae, and great dibits were made
under Heliogahalus and others, in the
third and fourth centime--, to exalt it
above all other religions. Indeed.
Mitliiaicisin came, mar gaining the
field and driving apostolic religion out
of the Honian empire. It did corrupt
it to an extent little understood.
Pagan Home made rol.gon a part of
the state. Long before the advent of
Christianity, tho emperor, as head of
the slate and therefore of the church
Pontifex Maxinius was accustomed to
leg slate upon all religious matters. He
had supreme power in this direction.
Scores of sacred days wore set apart,
under tlio pagan empire, upon which
judicial proceedings and ivrlain forms
of work were prohibited. It was the
settled pol ey of ihe cinp re for tlio em
peror thus to determine concerning
J'criul dais. Apostol c Christianity
forbade ail appeal to the civil law iii
matters of Christian duty. Christ and
his apostles sought only the rights of
citizenship at the hand of civil govern
ment. When these were refused they
gladlv ichlcd, suffering persecution
unto death if need be. Christ repeated
ly declared "My kingdom is not of this
world." Now Testament Christianity
could not have instituted such a eiiltiis
as that which gave r se to Sunday leg
islation, tint union of; church and state,
under an emperor or, an emperor pope.
"Old Mixou" peach trees cannot bear
crab-apples. All civil legislation con
cerning religious faith and practice,
such as obtained in the Honian empire,
was the product of paganism. It was
not an ollsiiuot of Christianity or of tho
Hebrew theocracy.
The llrst civil legislation concerning
Sunday appears in the edict of Constan
tino tlio (treat, Il'.'l A. D. Nothing ap
pears in history as demanding the leg
islation, or wishing it, except the will
of the emperor. Ho was a well-known
devotee of the sun-god, as were his
predecessors. His attitude toward
ChrisiianiU , both before and long after
tho issuing of the Sunday edict, was the
attitude ot a shrewd politician ; toward
his rivals it was that of an unscrupu
lous bloody-handed monarch. Popular
