(X AVomlcrrtil Clock.
A clock manufacturing firm in Calcutta,
i India, havo lately completed n very in
' perilous tinie-picco in tho shape ot an eight
day clock, which strikes the hours on a
j large, lull-toned gonsi nnd chimes the quar
ters on eight bells. In connection with the
' clock there is a perpetual calendar which
gives tho correct days ot all the various
months, including tho twenty-nino days ol
February in tho leap year.
There is also a military procession worked
by tho clock, representing various branches
ot tho British nrmy, consisting of artillery,
cavalry and infantry, and tho staff in re
view order. There is also a sentry on duty
who salutes a drummer, who beats tho
drum, and bugler who raised his buglo to
Ids mouth every few minutes. All of these
figures aro arranged nt the top of tho dial.
There is also a musical instrument, which
plays whilo tho procession is marching in
review.
Near tho bottom ot the clock is placed a
military band which is concealed by a cur
tain, and which is raised every hour when
tho music is playing and tho procession
moving, and falls again immediately after
the clock has struck, and remains drawn
until tho next hour.
Tho case, made of chonized mahogany, is
about sis feet high, threo feet six inches
wide, nnd two feet six inches deep, highly
ornamented with brass trimmings. The
circles on tho dial to bIiow minutes, hours,
days of tho mouth, etc., nro engraved and
silvered. Tho center and sides of the dial
aro richly enameled. At tho sides ot tho
cttso aro massive brass ornamental handles
nnd ornamental fretwork.

may bo learned of packing tho lungs. This
is dono by taking and holding tho long

trachro by swallows of air. Tho operation
may bo described by that of a fish's mouth

it will bo surprising to what extent tho
