The (oinintiniention of O. P. Hull,
which appeared in our hist issue, in
answer to enquiries put to him rcht
tivo to the iniumcr in which (lie work
of experting the county records was
done, and the result thereof, was
doubtless unsatisfactory t the major
ity of our readers. Wo confess it wa
so tons, after a careful perusal, which
wo had not time to ivc it when lirst
handed in for publication. Wo have
striven for some time to got at the
facts in the case, and have read with
much interest, the communications
written to this paper by ' Tax-payer"
concerning the numerous errors made
in that report, and was in hopes they
would serve to elicit the truth, and
bo the means of everybody coming to
a correct understanding of the matter.
.It will bo seen, however, that every
effort has been futile. Mr. licll, in
bis lengthy article, does not touch on
the question in which the people are
most intercBted, and ignores the
statements and questions of Tax
payer
. " us Mr. Outhouse the "ex
pert" has done. The former talks
to little purpose, the latter remains
us dumb as an oyster. We confess
that the case is hopeless. It is a fact,
however, very pulent to all, that the
democratic party is, in a measure, re
sponsible for all this. At least Out
house and his gang are responsible
font, and as they seem to have full
swing, and rulo the roost at present,
the party at large will have to suffer
for their actions. Looking at it from
an unbiased standpoint it in but right
it should. Any party that will be
ruled, bulldozed and deceived by such
rotten fossils is but courting defeat,
and will doubtless be successful In its
wooing.
DEMOCHA TIC COX I 'EXT I OX.
The democracy of L nion county, in
convention assembled, this week
placed in the Held their standard
bearers, and candidates for olHcial
position. With two or three ex
ceptions the nominees arc trustworthy
and cajiablo men, so far ns we know,
and if elected, will doubtless prove
to be good and etlicicnt public ser
yants. Two things, however, will
militate against their success at the
polls next .Mine first, the part taken
iu the convention by inc old clique of
political wire pullers', and manipula
tors of this county, and who, a one
of the delegates facetiously expressed
it, "had the con vontion by the tall,"
and, secondly, the manner in which
the candidates were elected as to lo
cation live being from Ui (iriiudc
and vicinity , and three from Indian
valley, the great southern portion of
the county being unrecognized, save
by a lonesome representative from
Eagle valley. This arrangement
would have been all right had it been
impossible to get the right kind of
men elsewhere, but in this cue that
difllculty did not arise,
show the wisdom or folk

of the ar
raugemcut. There can be no doubt
that if the republicans improve the
opportunity, put up the proper men,
nud can distribute them judiciouslv ,
they have a hotter chance of success
than they ever had before, When the
republican nominations are made, we
will dieciish the relative merits of the
various candidates.
