Not In-ing a very bold nhover of tho
quill, 1 will only give a few brief fact
about our precent crop prospects. On
account of the depredations of squir
rels, gophers, early spring, drouth, etc.,
crops will fall short at least one-third
from the crops of 1SSI. When first
sowed, sonio came up, later on, the
rain brought up the remainder, mak
ing il very uneven ingrowth and ma
turity, giving no time for stooling to
the last tender growth, thus making
imperfect in every respect. This one
fault alone will ellecl nearly all spring
sowing, and will ill Ihreshing time,
tell its own tale by a small yield. Those
who claim that the present ctop is in
any way ennui to that of lasl year, are
certainly much mistaken, or are cheap
grain speculators. Oregon and Michi
gan are the two favored States for
small grain. All the rest have partial
or total failures', which must inttre
heller prices for grain to the fanners
here. Parties Who have grain on hand,
will do well to hold it. awhile longer,
as the prospects are oortaitfly very Mat
tering for a raise in lhe general mar
ket. The prospectors who went to the
Pine Valley mines, gold hunting, have
