A special to the Tribune from the city of Mexico says: Dispatches from Guaymas show that the Yaqui iosurrectioo is constantly growing in extent, and all the Indian? in the towns along the river are rising in arms and taking tothe woods and mountains to join their companions already arrayed against the authorities. Jack Ramsey, the famous frontier character, and the American photo grapher, E. N. Miller, were on the way to Alamo9 when they were at' tacked by the Indians and killed. New York, Aug. 4 The dispatch from Austin, Tex., to the effect that Attorney-General Smith has not given consent to the forming of the cattle combination if it constituted a trust is correct so far as it goes, said George B. Loving, of Fort Worth, last night. Mr. Loving is in New York seeking to interest capitalists in the establish ment of an immense ranch in Texas and New Mexico, on which 600,000 cattle can be rounded up. "We do not intend tocreatea trust," he said. "I had some correspondence with Attorney-General Smith and he endorses the scheme on the lines we pursue. A cattle trust is impracti cable and therefore, could not be suc cessful.. Matters are progressing slowly but satisfactorily, ana I have received an option today from one person alone of one ranch and several thousand acres and 30,000 cattle in New Mexico. Renewals of Riots Feared. Cleveland, Aug., 4. New York, Aug. 5. A special to the Herald from Washington says it is understood that the plan, of opera tioos for the fall campaign in the Phil' ippines contemplates a division of the islands into several military depart ments, and General Lawton will have command of the department in which the cavalry troops will operate. It is probable that General Wheeler will be given command of a brigade of cavalry in General Lawton's department. - The boundary line of Lawton's de- partment will embrace the territory in which there will probably be the heaviest fighting, so that Lawton will be in direct charge of the most impor tant forces in the field, and in this way General Otis, while not being officially discredited, will be relieved of much of the responsibility in connection with the conduct of the war and will be left free to perform the duties of military governor. Secretary Root's short experience in the war department has already con vinced him that the views of the mili tary commanders subordinate to Gen eral Otis, who favor a larger military force than rec3mmeuZed by that of ficer, are worthy of serious considera tion. There are reasons to believe he will recommend that the force be fur ther Hugmented. REINFORCEMENTS 8ENT. . Yaqui Indians Are Encouraged by Their Successes. A special to the Republic from El Paso, Texas, says: Santa Teresa, the Mexican woman who has long been revered as a saint by the natives of Chihuahua and Sonora, and who is believed to posess tbe power of healing the sick by tbe laying on of bands, is believed to be more or less responsible for the present outbreak amoug the Yaqui Indians. George Harold, an old Texas ranger now a policeman of El Paso, says that he is confident that Santa Teresa is responsible for the outbreak. Harold is one of the officers who rounded up tbe ringleaders that raided the custom house at Palomas, Chihuahua, a few years a ago. Santa Teresa" he said, "was impli cated in that rebellion, which was crushed in its incipiency. Every rebel captured on this side of the line bad a picture of the woman in his possession and on the back was incribed one of her prayers." After the Palomas raid, the Mexican government made an effort to appre- end her, as she was looked upon as a dangerous character. She escaped to El Paso, however, and remained here a year or more. While she was visited by thousands. About a year ago, the woman disappeared from this locality and it afterwards turned out that she had gone to Sonora, and had taken up her abode in the edge of the Yaqui village, where she was safe from mo lestation by the Mexican government It is believed she incited the Yaquis to revolt. The woman is described as frail and delicate -looking. She un doubtedly possesses great magnetic powers. Harold and. others are- coofi dent that ber presence in the Yaqui country had a great deal to do with the uprising now assuming alarming proportions. - A Narrow Escape. Thankful words written by Mrs. Ada E. Hart, of Groton, S. D. "Was taken with a bad cold which settled on my lungs; cough set in and finally terminated in consumption.
