There are three "words of magic power,
With Kve and joyance laden; "
Ever remembered is the hour
When first the hapyy maiden
Hears from the lips she loves the Lest,
Those words so sweet and true,
That open the gates of paradise"
Those sweet wotds, "I love you."
And be it under the shady trees,
Beneath the summer skies,
Or il it be where the ocean waves
In crested billows rise;
Or under the light of autumn stars,
Or out in the morning dew,
That. time is blest when first we hear '
Those sweet words, "I love you."
And sacred in our inmost hearts
Wc keep that memory still,
Though life's earnest realities
Our lives with duties fill;
Sometimes amid our labors,
Or when the task is through,
We see again tafpTace and heSTT''""'
Those sweet words, "I love you."
They never lose their magic power
Amid life's fret and care,
And sometimes when our burdens
Seem all too great to bear,
Like oil on troubled waters
They will our strength renew,
When loved ones softly whisper -"""-"
Those sweet words, "I love you."
"I love you" words of magic,

IOWA'S TEMPJSnycJi MARTYR
There is great commotion in Iowa
oyer the trial of the alleged murderers
of Kev. George C. Haddock. Indeed
it may be said, almost without aggre
gation, that the state is on fire. Mr.
Haddock was an earnest and aggressive
prohibitionist at Sioux City. He had
given up his pulpit and was acting as
agent of the prohibitory league in col--lecting
evidence against liquor sellers
who were defying the law. By the
liquor league he was -denounced as a
spy and informer, andsomeof the men
whom he had been instrumental in
prosecuting formed a conspiracy to
kill him. Finally the threat was ex
ecuted. He was shot down on the
street, it was asserted and believed, by
a hired murderer. At first no certain
clue eould lie had, but at length some
of the parties began to talk. Tlie in
vestigations went on, till those w ho
were prosed by growing danger ac
cused others as principles in the crime
that is, with having incited it. The
case is now on trial at Sioux City, and
it creates an excitement never before
equaled in Iowa.
It was a most heinous murder.
Throughout the state it itensified the
prohibition feeling to. a degree unex
ampled. Sioux City, in particular, it
created a storm of indignation against
the liquor business which has dona
more to put it down than the prohibi
