The showings for both cities are sur
prisingly, great; but Minneapolis,
which was long behind St. Paul, is now
clearly in the lead; The two cities
now touch each other, and indeed arc
virtually one. Together they form a
metropolis of 300,000 people, character
ized by intense energy.
But great as they are, whether taken
together or singly, they are small by
contrast with mishtv Chicactn, whose
wholesale business for tho year footed
up 116,000,000; whose manufactured
products reached a total value of 319,
019,000; whose produce receipts
showed a footing of $322,000,000,
whose bank clearings ran to the pro
digious total of 82,604,762,912, and
whole frontage of buildings erected
within the vear exceed the length of
twenty-one miles.
