    ROSEBURG REVIEW
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 1886.
XROCLAMAIlOir.
like Vreitent Designates Thursday, Xor
rmbcr S3, at Day of Thankigieluff.
Washington, Oct. 31. Following
is President Cleveland's proclamation
designating Thursday, November 2",
as a day of thanksgiving and prayer:
A PROCLAMATION
By the President of the United States.
It has long been the custoni of the peo.
pie of the United States, ou a day in
each year especially set apart for that
purpose by the chief executive, to ac
knowledge the goodness and mercy of
God, and to invoke his continued care
and protection. In observance of
such custom, I, Grover Cleveland,
president- of the United States, do
hereby designate and set apart Thurs
day, the 25th day of November instant-
to !c observed and kept as a day ' cf j
thanksgiving and prayer. On that day
let all our people forego their accus
tomed employment and assemble in
their usual places of worship, to give
thanks to the Ruler of the universe for
our continued enjoyment of the blesi
ing of free government, for a renewal
of business prosperity throughout our
land, for the return which has re
warded the labor of those who till
the soil, aud for our progress as a peo
ple in all that makes a nation great
. And while we contemplate the infi
nite power of Gou, in earthquake, flood
and storm, let the jrateful heart of
those who have been shielded from
harm through his mercy be turned in
sympathy and kindness toward those!
who hava suffered through bis visita
tions. Let us also in the midst of our
thanksgiving, remember tho poor and
needy with cheerful gift3 and aims, so
that our service may, by deeds of
chanty, be made acceptable in .the
sight of the Lord.
In witness whereof I have hereunto
set my hand and caused the seal of
the United States to be affixed.
Done at the city of Washington, this
first day of November, in thd year of
our Lord one thousand ig ht hundred
and eighty-six, and of the indepen
dence of the United States of America
one hundred and eleventh.
GROVER CLEVELAND,
By .the President.
T. F. Bayard, Secretary of State.
Gov. Hill of New York, made a
speech last week in Pennsylvania, in
which he scored Mr. Blaine for his
insincerity in many directions. It is
really strange that some would-be poli
ticians clum that Mr. Blame is
stronger than when he ran against
Cleveland. What has made him so?
Certainly Cleveland has given an ad
ministration of which the nation is
proud. Then it is not Cleveland's im
becility. What has made him bo, we
ask againl Cast your horoscope once
more, and then tell us.

Last Tuesday just" after the gloam
ing of a beautiful autumnal evening
was the harbinger of a. happy nuptial
event which took place in Slocum s
Hall at precisely 9 o'clock P. M., Peter
McKinneyonc of our leading citizens,
and Mrs. Anderson were joined in
holy wodlock by the city marshal.
The large crowd assembled to extend
congratulations, was an evidence of
the esteem in which he and his hand
some bride were held. After the cer
emony, and a couple of hours of pleas
ure, the guests dispersed, all wishing
the bride and groom a life of prosperity
and happiness.
