- A query for the ministers: How
can you stand on the national Demo
cratic platform opposing sumptuary
lawsl By general consent of the house
refered to Bro. Bell of The Rosebceg
Review? Star.
We answer; whoever heard ot the
preachers getting out of the church be
cause the devil cot inl No sir, if
there is an error in the Democratic
platform in reference to sumptuary
laws or anything else, the true Demo
crat will correct the error and preserve
the body politic Inside the church,
inside the party is the place to rectify
wrongs. If there is a defect in a ship
the Star would have us desert the ship
and let her go down, and go and build
a new one at aa enormous ex
pense. Let us say to you right here,
the Democratic craft has been afloat
ever since the days of Julius Cajsar,
and the people of this grand Republic
still looks to her for a safe landing.
Bloody Shirt.
Our cotemporary reminds us of the
chameleen, every week it changes its
color. It is for forcing the Republi
cans to adopt prohibition one week
and then again last week, in answer
to J. W. Webb it emphatically said
"no," but took much delight in flaunt
ing the bloody shirt, and was under
the extreme necessity of going back
twenty years ago to get anything
worthy of note that the grand old
party had done for this glorious coun
try.

DEMOCRATIC STATE CEXIRAL
COMMITTEE.
Napoleon Davis, of Forest Grove,
is prominently spoken of as a candi
date on the democratic ticket for State
Superintendent of Public Instruction.
We met this gentleman at Lafayette
not long since, and from the ability he
displayed in the Institute there, he is
eminently qualified for the position.
Mr. Davis will be a hard man to beat
for that office.
A meeting of the Democratic State
Central Committee will be held at
Portland, Oregon, on the 20th day of
March, 1886, at two o'clock P. M. for
the purpose of selecting the date of
holding the next Democratic State
Convention.
A full attendance is specially and
earnestly requested.

An exchange says we are glad to note
the fact that Democrats throughout
the county are generally reaching the
conclusion that it will be the part of

7th, of April. We learn from all sec
tions of the county that all or nearly
all will attend to this matter.
The temperance sentiment is grow
ing in this country every day. As a
result it will prevail without -a ques
tion. There is a mental revolution
going on, gog and magog are pitched
against each other, and out of it all
will come a better state of society and
another step upward in the grand scale
of christain civilization.
At the Democratic National Con
vention in 1880 Mr. Tilden was :. set
aside on the plea that we must have
a candidate who had a long life before
him. It is a commentary on the fal
libility of human judgement that gal
lant Hancock is dead, while Tilden
survives in full possession of his mar
velous mental faculties. Democrat.

We desire to call the attention of the

does love so well to dwell upon the di

THE GREAT REGULATOR
PURELY VEGETABLE.
Are You Bilious?
The Regulator never fails to eure. I most
cheerfully recommend it to all who suffer from
Bilious Attacks or any Disease caused by a dis
arranged state of the Liver.
Kansas City. Mo. W. R. BERNARD.
Do You Want Good Digestion ?
I suffered intensely withFull Stomaeh,Hend
aehe, etc. A neighbor, mho had taken Simmon
Liver Regulator, told me it mas a sure eure for my
trouble. The first dose I took relieved me very
much, and in one week's time I was as strong and
hearty as I ever was. It is the best medtctne
I ever took for Dyspepsia.
Richmond, Va. B. G. CBENSHAW.
Do You Suffer from Constipation ?
Testimony of Hiram Warns, Chief-Justice of
Ca. : " I have used Simmons Liver Regulator for
Constipation of my Bowels, caused by a temporary
Derangement of the Liver, for the last three or
four years, and always with decided benefit."
Have You Malaria ?
I have had experience with Simmons Liver Regu
lator since 1865, and regard it as the greatest
medicine of the times for diseases peeu
. liar to malarial regions. So good a medi
cine deserves universal commendation.
REV. M. B. WHARTON,
Cor. Sec'y Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Safer and Better than Calomel !
I have been subjeel to severe spells of Congestion
of the Liver, and have been in the habit of taking
from 15 to 30 grains of calomel, which generally laid
me up for three or four days. Lately I have been
taking Simmons Liver Regulator.which gave me re
lief, vritltout any interruption to business.
