, i. Democratic pavty amt the eo
a of Michigan at largo liave gainod
a gre.fc victory by the election of
Judge Morse to thoLSuprem Bench of
the stata over Thomas M, Cooley.
The platform iipon which Juctge xIorse
was nominated pledgad the pai ty to
support President Cleveland V admin
istration - It declared. Against claS3
legfslation by tariff laws, or by the ex
tention of corporate pnviliges, either
by legislation or Judical Construction.
Judge Cooley has always been person
ally popular in the state and as a law
writer lie . Las obtained a national
reputation. But the Supreme Court,
of which ho was for rn.ny years a
member, by f creed judical construction
through an unbroken line of decisions
lias favored" "by''"It3" judgments cbrpo-
rations and corporate wealth to the
detriment of the jxKple of the state.
The defeat of so. eminent a jurist as
Judge Cooley in a state which has here
tofore been Republican, by eo large a
majority, upon this issu, is a triumph
for the people and shows the power of
popular election. It is the entering
wedge which, will in time sweep away
the last vestas of a , sys:em of class
piivilc-gos created by "pernicious leg
islation, and extended and upheld by
rotten and corrupt judical construction.
It ia the duty of all good citizens to
Bcpod to every departuientjaf- the gov
ernment bjth stata an'.i national their
fullest sympathy and support; and it is
likewiso their duty and privilege to
jealously guard their rights and liber
ties, and whenever any department is
administered detrimental to their best
interest it is a duty they owe them
selves to displace thtur officers with
mora foilhfm public servants. There
3 nothing so intricate in the machinery
of our-government but what the ma
jority of the people can understand it.
The administration of justice requires
inoro learning than any olhea depart
ment and under our system is the most
important, and as at the same time
most exposed to controling influences.
A- learned Judge can write a decision,
on any disputed case, which will read
welt, and till in with authorities to
sustain either of- the conflicting pos
sitious and claim that .his -opinion is
sustained by precedent .and authority.
lint when a continuos line of decisions
are followed by an unbroken line of
judgments which in "thir operation
become burthcr.scme and 'appressivo to
a large prepcrtion of a community the
people readily unders'.and the iniquity
of .ihrse decisions and the condition of
society at once demand that they shall
$e changed and that the. 'error and
abuse conected by the. election of other
Judges. No decision should be follow
ed as a president which will work an
injustice iu any given case and it is
either a bad decision cr an erroneous
application that will deprive a suitor.
Ui his equitable rights. And whenever
Court or Judge follow bl'vnd precedents
to the injury of the substantial rights
of litigants it is a duty which the peo
ple owe themselves to displace theni

S. R. LANE offers for sale his splen
did Ranch situated m Douglas County,
Oregon. This Lad'lW Nine miles
east of Roseburg on a good public road,
nnd is in a compact body consisting of
2280 Acres. The north and middle
branches of Deer Creek run through the
same and besides numerous smaller
Streams tributary to these creeks there
are a large number of splendid springs
verr convehientiv located on the place.
Much of the land is well adapted to
aerricultiare common to this climate and
the hill sides furnish excellent grazing
in fact unsurpassed in Oregon. " One
large enclosure of hill land has for
years produced a better average yield
of Timothy hay than any other like
r umber of Acres in this locality. There
are at least four hundred Acres fitted
for this kind of cultivation. There is
one good mill site and probably mere
oil the place surrounded by good mer
chantable timber. There is already six
or seven miles of fencing on the place
and a new saw-mill within a few yards
of the South line of the same, render
ing fencing material cheap. There is
one excellent and another very comfort
able dwelling on the land, connected
with wlrch are good orchards. The
range east is open and very extensive.
Altogether it is the most desirable
stock ranch now on the market in Ore.

EL DORADO MINERAL
GEO. W. JONES, Dear Sir:
I have delayed answering
your letter in order to send you the enclosed ceititi
cato. Mr. Bart Reeve declines to give a testimonial
at present for the reason that he has been under the
treatment of a number of Physicians and thinks that
they might not like it, if ho were to make the affirm- J
ation of the efiocc of your Mineral Water hs-d upon
him. I will describe the case to youas near as I can.
He had been sick about two years and an unnatural
belt had formed aiound him'just below the ribs. IJe
drank your Mineral Water three jr four days and the
belt went off in such a way as to cause his legs and
feet to swell, but that soon disappeared, and he is
now in comfortable health. The doctors had all
ffiven up that he could not get Well. There are a
number f persons here, who have spoken to me for
some of the water, to use in various cases, and I
would like to ue a little myself I think it is the
best nervous remedy I ever knew. Please sand me
five gallons of the Water, Resjiectf ully,
