of Itoseburg is a vast section of coun
try as yet undeveloped, and wo might
add, unexplored, as but little is known
'of it.
Tho Saditli river country, lying north
and we: of Drain station, is perhaps
the beppart cf the unsettled portion

mountains, some fifteen miles due
'., north of tho town of Drain, and ilows
- ' nearly due west and emptiejs into the
bjiy or inlet at the mouth of the Ump-

'Scottsburff. Tho east fork for some
'five or sin miles above its junction

from one-half to two miles wide on

fir limber near the banks, showing that
the country has once been a burn
The land close to the banks of the
stream is higher than back near the
' hills, where numerous prairies of swamp
-rass, with scarce any timber, abounds,
some of them containing from fifty to
