set up political primaries and stock county

whether our. ideas of honor and right suit
the Timet, the Star or the Llade, but we

We farmers, the bone and sinew of the
land, are in the midst of our haying, and are
happy at the prospect of Urge crops and
splendid weather to care and house the same.
Our haying and harvest here ia somewhat
later than ia Douglas, bat we can boast of
heavier crops. Wheat, oata and barley
look splendid, and wi'h a few weeka of the
present aumhiny weather "ye horny handed
of toil" need not longer oomplain ot
herd tiaes.
This settlement has barn abundantly sop
plied with game, consisting of ,1k, deer and
hear by a few of our most successful hunters.
Those most successful are Harve Minard.
Ttylor Weekly, John Bturdevant, John
Miller and Cnn-ket Krauts, and you can
just bet your bottom dollar whenever either
of these hunt freh meat is in abundraoe.

The health of this community ia good; ia
fact this is, in my opiniou, the healthiest
portion ot Oregon.
It is amusing to settlers here to listen to
the murmurs, and sometimes expressions
strongly ravoring of curses lung and loud
which eminate from tourists visiting t hi sec
tion in search oi good roads, presume. I
am sorry to say, thiy don't find them, not
murh. If there ia one thing more than
another in which wa pride ourselves it i in
having the worst roads to be found any
where. I think if my individual assertion
is not readily taken I could refer all to
(sheriff Hugan, who, if I am not mistaken,
found some few rough and muddy spots in
his late pleasntn trip from Dora to Myrtle

To show we are not entirely beyond th e
pale of tbe chuich we will state we have
spiritual eonsolation administered in moder
ate doses twice per month at the East Fork
school house. The Donkards or triune Bap
tist are the most numerous, I believe. We
ot the ungodly also have an icasional un
holy gathering for the purpose of tripping
the light fantastic, I believe they call it. At
a danoe up the North Fork a few evenings
since, some of the boys oun-duded beer
would help, or in Some manner conduce o,
promote a festive feeling upon the oucaaion ,
and in consequence there were two kega of
MeU's best duly on hand. One of the
receptacles containing the liquid whi ch
cheers but does not intoxicate, was drained,
and everybody and everything was as mer
ry as a marriage tell, so called; but upon a
call being made for more beer it became
necessary to tap the remaining keg and upon
an examination, separate and apart &c, the
spigot could iot be found a search was in
stituted, the musicians being the first to
respond thereto, and from that time until
daylight no beer, no musio, no dancing and
everybody felt they would aa soon live aa die.
