ROOSEVELT'S GREETING
Hails Chamberlain as Next
Oregon Senator.
"I am glad to see you, Gover
nor Chamberlain and Senator-to-be,"
said President Roosevelt
last Saturday morning in greet
ing Oregon's chief executive at
the White House.
Mr. Chamberlain had called
to pay his respects, and with a
number of other public men was
waiting in the Cabinet room for
an opportunity to see the Presi
dent, when Mr. Roosevelt enter
ed. He walked deliberately up
to Mr, Chamberlain, extended
his hand and greeted him as
above quoted, adding:
"The people of Oregon have
expressed their choice for Sena
tor. I stand by the will of the
people, and I am for you for
Senator."
There is no likelihood Taft
will come out with a statement
adverse to Chamberlain.
After the Teachers' Institute
closed here last Wednesday eve
ning many of the teachers re
main over for Thursday - and
Walker and Jamieson occurred,
and it would be an injustice to
the two great players to say
that either had tfa e advantage,
for both played excellent foot
ball. Cady, Brodie, Enberg,
Hastings, Pendergrass, Keck,
Wallace, Evendon and Kelly
each distinguished himself for
OAC on frequent ' occasions,
while Smith, Alexander, Oswald,
while he was in the game, and
McMillan, who succeeded him,
Stott, Pilkington, Rader and
Knudson played splendidly for
the club. In fact, it was one of
the best games seen in Portland
this year, and both teams de
serve special mention. The of
ficials, Oliver Cutts and Ray
mond Hockenberry, were all
that could be asked.
The teams lined up as follows :
Multnomah n Position Corvallis io
O. P. Smith LEE.. .Dobbin, Cady
Walker L T R Jamieson
Conant LGR Wallace
Carlson C Kelly
Rader, McClnre
McMillan R G L. ..... . Evendon
Oswald, Rader. . .R T L Pendergrass
Alexander R EL Brodie
! Stott Q Gagnon
Slaker L H R Enberg
Pilkington RHL Hastings
I Knudson ....F Keck
Summary of the game: Touchdowns
i Brodie, Pilkington, Stott. Goals from
touchdown Stott, Keck. Goals from the
I field Keck. Final score Multnomah,
u; OAC, io. Time of halves 30 min
utes. Now that the season is ended
and there is time for impartial
criticism or rather for weighing
the merits of the team in general
and the style of play carried out
in the various games, it must be j
acknowledged that Norcross has
made a rndst capable coach and !
had his suggestions and advice
been strictly carried out, there
is every reason to believe that
OAC would have won every
game this year.
There is no denying the fact
that Norcross is the right man
in the right place. His record
here for the past two years has
been clean and full of the" true
athletic spirit. He should be
retained for next season and if
he will remain and is implicitly
obeyed, OAC will be certain to
fully retrieve the losses suffered
this year.
