NEEDS EDUCATION.
Communicated.
The Oregonian seems to thmk
that Nevada is only a sage brush
pocket whatever that may be
and arrays the state in the sure
Bryan column. If the editorial
writer of that great paper would
study Nevada a lit le he would
learn several things seemingiy
unknown in that office.
One of Nevada's Senators is a
Republican and there is much
reason to hope Nevada will go
for Taf t this year. Nevada . is
not addicted to 16 to 1 any more
than Oregon and just wait a few
years until the gambling and
whiskey business become out
lawed there. The hand-writing
is on the wall and these excres
censes must go.
Oh, no ! brother, Nevada is not
a blot upon the map and, inci
dentally, is actually rolling more
gold into the mint than people
are aware of. Nevada is all right,
the Oregonian to the contrary
notwithstanding.
Additional Locals
The little controversy over the
sidewalk in front of the Occi
dental hotel has been amicably
adjusted by special act of the city
council. Mr. Woodcock "" was
granted permission to repair the
same with the provision that
should a new building, as now
contemplated, not be commenced
by June 1st, the present walk
must be replaced with a cement
one as specified by ordinance.
M. E. Gragg and wife of the
Belief ountain neighborhood have
purchased two lots in Corvallis
and expect to build a new house.
They will move to town about
the first of November. . This
Bellefountain neighborhood has
given us some mighty good citi
zens during the past two years
and we extend a cordial greeting
to Mr. and Mrs. Gragg.
The remains of the unfortu
nate Jack Morgan who killed
himself by overdose of. drugs
last week was laid to rest to-day
at the Crystal Lake Cemetery.
The remains have been held
with the hope of locating the
daughter who lives somewhere
in California, The San Francisco
Examiner has taken a exeat in-
o
terest in the matter but failed in
the attempt.
The flight of an immense lo
comotive and train of cars is one
of the delightfully realistic fea
tures of the big new melodrama,
"Ine Jiocky Mountain Express,
which comes to the opera house
next Thursday night. The re
sponsible managers and produc
ers, the Kliint & Gazzola Amuse
ment Company, are the exploit
ers of this cleverly constructed
play of the "Rockies" and golden
West, and it is understood that
the production is an innovation
in every particular. The pre
senting company has been exr
ceptionally well selected.
