FORWARD NOT BACKWARD.
A thorough workman finishes
what he has in hand before he
leaves it, and then is done with
it forever. It is true that the
greatest artists sometimes keep
work by them for many years,
touching it from time to time,
because the work ol art some
times grows in the thought of
the artist after it has been be
gun, and the enlarged vision
which comes from the mere ex
ercise of the hand compels a
larger treatment.
"With action, however, this is
impossible. When a deed is
done, it has gone beyond the
power of the doer just as the
picture which has been moved
from the studio and gone to the
home of the purchaser no longer
belongs to the artist.
Strength of char : f u i ;
denced, among other things, by
the completeness with which a
man detaches himself from his
deed when he has finished it, or
his decision when he has reached
it. This does not mean that he
separates himself from its con
sequences that is beyond hi
powers; but it does mean that he
ceases to go over the ground
which he ha tr; veled, to ask
questions which have perplexed
him, to brood over the problem
that has preceded his action
When a deed is done, he leaves
it behind him; Jhe is not contin
ually going back to question
whether he could have done
otherwise whether his action
was wise or otherwise. He re
cognizes the fact that whatever
its character may have been, it
has passed beypnd his control
and he has now to confront the
new question, to make the pre
sent decision.
Nothing is so extremely
useless as this habit of constant
ly re-opening old decisions to
which some people are given. It
takes from the Present strength
which is needed for the new
question, and wastes it upon
he things that are already set
tled beyond the possibility of be
ing re-opened. It is well to re
flect on what we have done yes
terday, and to get from it new
wisdom for tomorrow; but it is
useless to spend today asking
idle questions about the decis
ions of yesterday.

A Lazy Liver
May be only a tired liver, or a starved
liver. It would be a stupid as well as
savage thing to beat a weary or starved
man because he lagged in his work. So
In treating the lagging, torpid liver it is
a great mistake to lash it with strong
drastic drugs. A torpid liver is but .in
Indication of an ill-nourished, enfeebled
body whose organs are weary with over
work. Start with the stomach and allied
organs of digestion and nutrition. Put
them in working order and see how
quickly your liver will bocome active.
Dr. Pierce's Gclden Medical Discovery
has made many marvelous cures of "liver
trouble " by its wonderful control of the
organs of digestion and nutrition. It re
stores the normal activity of the stomach,
Increases the secretions of the blood-making
glands, cleanses the system from poi
sonous accumulations, and so relieves the
liver 01 tne Duruens imposed upon it oy
the defection of other organs.

a part ot the Above symptoms will be present
at one time and yet point to torpid liver or
biliousness and weak stomach. Avoid all
hot bread and biscuits, eriddle cakes and
other indigestible food and take the "Golden
Medical Discovery" regularly and stick to Its
use until you are vigorous and wrong.
The "Discovery" is non-secret, non-alcoholic,
is a glyceric extract of native medici

printed on each bottle-wrapper and attested
under oath. Its ingredients are endorsed
and extolled by the most eminent medical
writers of the age and are recommended to
cure the diseases for which it is advised.

am. Why Not Use Electric Lights?
Stop scratching matches on jour wall.
Tnose streaky match scratches look
mighty bad on any.wall. But as long as
yon continue to use gas or oil you've got
to use matches.
The "matchless light" is the electric
light, a simple twist of the wrist does it.
We are improving and perfecting our
lighting service in this city and can give
better service for less money than ever
in the history of the city.
The cost of wiring has been reduced
until it is within reach of all.
