Between, poultry breeders of
Oregon and Washington it ' is
about nip t'and tuck.' Corvallis
has on two or three occasions sent
birds to the Seattle poultry shows
and has just about held her own
in the way of prizes and first
places with her competitors of
the north. , But just now it seems
that Washington is in a fair way
to take the lead in the matter of
poultry exhibit at the Lewis
and Clark ; fair.
Harry Collier, formerly editor
of the Pacific Poultryman of
Tacoma, has been secured by the
state authorities of Washington
to tour the state in the interest of
an exhibit of poultry at the Ex
position. 1 The state, we are in-
fermed, pays the expense of this
and also the expenditure neces
sary on the part of individuals
who may send fancy birds to the

If something ' of this' nature
could be done in Oregon we
would beyond a doubt have
creditable showing at ,the,. Lewis
and Clark Fair and stand a good
cnance ot winning ; over our
neighbors of the .north. But
without this assistance it is feared
mat interest will lag and our
showing be poor. -
Elmer Dixon, of Oregon City,
has been appointed "superintend

Exposition, and C. G. . Hinds, of
The Installation.
There. was a very pleasant and

the- installation of Rev. M. S.
Bush as pastor. . A large congre-,

tors and members from sister
churches in this city. W. S.
Holt, D. D., Synodical Mission
ary of Oregon, presided and pro
pounded the coHStitutional ques
tions and offered the prayer of
installation.
Rev. T. B. Griswold, of the
resbyterian church of Albany,
preached the sermon, and Rev.
Andrew Carrick, of Brownsville,
former pastor of the church,
gave the charge to the pastor,
E. J. Thompson, D. D., of Inde
pendence, for 14 years pastor of
the church, gave the charge to
the congregation. The sermons
were all first-class and much en
joyed by the congregation pres
ent. When the Benediction was
pronounced all those present made
a forward movement and oSered
their congratulations to Rev. and
Mrs. Bush.
At the close of the services the
young ladies of the Christian En
deavor society served light refresh
ments and those that remained
enjoyed a social hour over the re

When it comes to a matter of
roses Corvallis people tip their
hats to nobody. At this season
of the year there is fragrance in
the. air, noticeble even to old
'resiaenters. ". ifiat .Nature is
to be assisted is set forth in a dis
patch recently sent from this city
to the Telegram, which reads as
follows:
The citizens of Corvallis are
following in the footsteps of Port
land residents in beautifying their
city for the inspection of the
crowds of visitors, who .will be
draw to Oregon this year by the
Lewis aad Clark Exposition.
Hundreds of roses have been new
ly planted on public grounds, and
many of the citizens have become
enthusiastic rose fanciers, some
having added to their colections
of this beautiful flower as many
k 0 new choice varieties. Con
di tibns here are unusually favor
able for "floral production, and the
city is already .assuming the ap-
bearahfce' of a garden of flowers.
