Au accident occurred Thurs
day evening about 7 o'clock, as
a result of which Matt George
lias lost his left foot. Mr. George
is about 55 years of age and lives

pany with his grandchild over to

A New Steamer.
According to a special from
Marshfield to the Oregonian a
new coast st-amer, the Toledo,
will make regular trips from Eu
reka, Cal. to Yaquina Bay, tak
ing in Coos Bay. This is part of
a plan supposed to be backed by

there is regular weekly, passenger
service between Coos Bay .and

Coos Bay, however, is seek rag to
induce Portland capital to put on
a line of steamers between Marsh
field and! the Oregon Metropolis.
The steamer, Toledo, will be a
benefit in two ways; a new mar
ket will be found for valley pro
ducts and there will be a saving
of four hours time for commercial
travellers who wish to stop at
Gardner and Coos Bay.
