A. I. McFadden was placed on
trial before Judge Cleland aiid " a
jury yesterday on a charge of for
gery, preferred by J. B. Tillot
son, his former employer, who is
a contractor and logger. McFad
den worked for Tillotson as a
bookkeeper and was discharged
in August 1903. Tillotson made
a practice of supplying McFad
den with blank checks signed in
in blank and just before he left
the office he filled out a check in
his own favor for $342 and cash
ed it. He said Tillotson owed
him this much for services ren
dered.
Tillotson denies this, and states
that McFadden charged $147 for
expenses he was not entitled to,
He testified that McFadden made
some trips for him out of town
and said he paid the traveling ex
penses, but was not supposed to
pay for board and room rent, as
there was no such contract be
tween them.
The trial will be concluded to
day. J. O. Stearns and W. S.
McFadden, of Corvallis, appear
as counsel for the defense. Ore-
gonian.
The jury in the case on Tues
day brought in a verdict ot not
guilty, and McFadden was ac
quitted after a few moments' de
liberation.
