The Ideal Senator.
Editor Corvallis Gazette :
If you will allow me space in
ycur valuable paper, I will try to
express my judgement as what
constitutes an ideal man for State
Senator. He should be a man in
the prime of life, so if he gives
satislaction to the people of his
country they can send him again :
He should be a good business
man, capable of acting for the
country in a conservative busi
ness way. A man with some
idea of law so as to frame a bill
that would stand in law. He
should have the respect of all po
litical parties, for when he is
elected he is the Senator for his
opponents as well as those who
vote for him.
Now I suppose I have made a
poor stagger at describing what
might be considered an ideal man.
But I have mentioned some of
the most important ones. Now
our county IS a small one SO we
have a small representateon in the
legislature and should have men
there to represent our country
large enough in ability to make
up for what we lack in other
ways. The office is not a lucra
tive one, consequently f ie office
will have to seek the man. In
most other offices the man seeks
the office. In the office of State
Senator, if the man acts honor
able to his country his only pay
is the honor of serving the peo
ple that elected him. Now Re
publicans where is the man that
comes the nearest of being an
ideal man for Senator from Ben
ton County? -
