EDITORIAL COMMENT.
We hope none of our farmers
will lose their heads in the pres
ent cattle excitement, and dis
pose of their stock at prices that
are now ruling, which is really
far below their reasonable value.
This is the time to buy, as the
demand for beef in the Pacific
coast, states is growing much
taster than the supply. Before
the winter is over it will be nec
essary to import beef cattle from
Montana, Utah and Colorado.
Prices must necessarily rise, and
the farmer who holds on will
reap the benefit.
We learn that the ringleader
of the Holy Rollers, Parson ,Cref-
field, who recently left this city
in a hurry, has mustered up
courage enough to return, and is
now at his old quarters. It is
now up to the county officers to
see that no further disturbances
of the peace are allowed, and
that the threatened mobbing of
these fanatics is prevented.
Much as this treatment is deserv
ed, we hope, for the good of our
city, it will be prevented. It is
but right, however, to warn these
people that a single overt act on
their part will be the signal for
prompt and effective measures to
rid Corvallis of a nui&ance, and
that will be a lesson to future
Rollers and howlers, as they will
do well to note. We trust the
county officers will see their way
to perform - their duty in the
premises.
Tammany has k won and the
Tiger is again on top. George
B. McClennan, son of the civil
war general, has been . elected
mayor by a majority of over 6o,
ooo. The people have got enough
of a decent, orderly, cleanly gov-
- ernment, and have voted for re
form. Reform stands for more
ventilation the ventilation you
get irom a "wide-open" town.
, Low -has given to New York
City a conservative administra
tion, creditable to himself and
the party that elected him. But
v . decency doesn't go for much in
the slums of New York, and from
. the slums Tammany draws its
strongest following. Pure water
lias no charms for the man who
Jives on beer. New York has
got the" best she is entitled to, it
is as good as she wants, let her
enjoy it.
The only election on Tuesday
that can be said to have any
bearing on the National election
next year, was that in Ohio.
Here the local issues did not out
weigh the purely party considera
tions, and the result justifies the
claims that the party managers
have made for the national cam
paign. The success of Tam
many will have the effect of in
troducing an arrogant and dis
cordant element into the demo
cratic councils, that will in the
end work more harm than good
in the bourbon ranks. Tam
many is essentially rule or ruin
and its recent victory will only
serve to make it more emphatic
in its demands. -On the whole
the .Republican party has srood
cause to be satisfied with the re
sults of Tuesday's elections.
It is said that some of our
larger Eastern colleges pay as
much as $50,000 a year to main
tain the athletic department of
their institution, ' and that some
colleges are even guilty of pay
ing more than this sum. In the
face of this stubborn fact comes
a Western college which proposes
that all athletic games be open
to spectators, without money,
and without frice, and that no
stands be erected, but that all
lookers-on be on the level, in a
roped-off field. There is no fear
that such a course will be adop
ted. Just imagine, for a mo
ment, an important football con
test, with a field crowded with
friends of both sides, all anxious
to see and to let their friends on
the team know that they are on
hand.. By, the time the game
got to ,'be a trifle exciting . the
mob would have killed a goodly
number of spectators in the
crush and probably crowded the
team off the field. It will be a
long time before iree football be
comes the rule. -

up to the preseut time, but even
Elijah's easily acquired millions
cannot stand such a drain for auv
great length of time. Reaping
nothing but disappointment he
wends his way. back to Zion,
having made neither money nor

dramatic fire works in disowning
his father produced no results,
as J. M. Dowie still insists that
he is Elijah's father, and offers to
produce the proofs. Why he

Mr. Editor:-1-! desire to say to yon,
for publication, that I wai treated by
Dr. Darrin, at Portland, aboutten years
ago for tumor and conttumption. 1 had
a large tumor or abcess growing under
my ribs and it had attained such a
growth that my ribs were actually bulged
oat, and consumption with corruption
and spitting blood was fast lessening my
days of life. I was treated by Dr Dar
rin and a few months thereafter I was a
perfectly strong man . and able to do a
good, day's work. Before treatment I
could scarcely walk one hundred yards.
I want persons afflicted to personally
call upon me at Eagle Point and learn
more of Dr. Darrin and liU almo-it won

all hopes ot relief, but thanks to Dr.
Darrin I was cured of all the above men

of health. I reside at Coos City, six
miles from Marshfield, and will gladly
answer any questions by letter or in per
