A New Sawmill. For some tiiuc it
ha:s Xicoxx known that steps were being
taken for tlie building of a first class
sawmill at- Vancouver. The arrange
ment have iiow been completed and the
mill is to be built. Eugene Semple, of
Portland, ia. at the head of the enter
prise. "The mill will be located oil Lot
No. 6. on the river bank below town,
the laird being a donation to the enter

at St. Lctfis: Mo., is of the most im
proved make and of 71 horse power,; was

It is expected to have the saws running
within Ike or six weeks. The mill will
have the same capacity us the St. Helen
mill i'C000 or 2",000 feet every 12
hours. This is an enterprise that has
loEg been wanted in Vancouver, and we
wish it abundant success. Mr. Ilanek
deserves c'fe'lit for his public spirit in
making so liberal a donation to this en

man separated from his wife visited late
ly his children, and gave them ten cents
apiece. Before he left he icok back the
ten crmts from the biiby to buy him a
drink of whiskey. Another. Noble
old John Gum packed on his back a big
load of vegetables, once upon a time, to
St. Helen and carried them to a certain
store where an old man was clerkin",
and ottered it for sale. The old man
said he would give a bit, and John de
livered thorn over, mul received his bit.

Miss Ella Stoughton arrived at New

This feat of surgery was successfully ac
complished and the father is living and
well today, and the child is blossoming
into a noble manhood, the pride of his
other grandfather, the venerable Ed
ward Henriei.
. The Miles-Mcliride camp has been
moved from Tide Creek to the South
Fork of the Seappoose near Mr. Van
Cleave's. It consists of Dr. llichardson's
family, Hon. T. A. McBrido's family,
Mrs. Dr. Ycrgain, and son Orville, Mrs.
Morse and Miss Annie Merrill. Mr.
Miles is the purveyor and ' main stay of
the camp, and keeps up t he connection
with the outside world. If you want a
good time, and everything to move right
alonij have S. A. Miles for the motive
power. He is like the mainspring to a
clock. Francis and Cora Miles have
been out but have returned. It is hard
for them to stay away from their beau
tiful home. Georgia Giltucr is there, the
pot of the campers, alo Mrs. M. Hclman.

There are some people upon their
tirst advent in a community make a
great blow of trumpets but after a short
time are compelled to take a back .seat,
not so Mr. and, Mrs. Godkin. They
have gradually and surely worked into
the esteem of the community and spite :
of innate modesty are reckoned among
our tirst citizens. They are people of
culture and refinement, and everyone
was pained at Mrs. GoJkin's accident,
and the testimonials of interest and so
licitude were marked; for which Mr. it
Mrs. Godkin return their sincere thanks.

scene ended with " all hands round,"

The Muckles after running their logs
over our lowland went, and vailed on

Mr. Allen's little girl Ethel started out
to hunt her father the other morning.
She went away beyond Milton Bridge,
and was still goirg when overhauled by
Miss Moore on horseback and Mrs.
Stickles On foot. She was brought back
much to the chagrin of herself but to the
great relief of her affrighted mother.
Abe Neer has sold over a thousand
dollars worth of lots at Neer City which
contains an area of ninety acres. Abo
is net married yet, but in a fair way to
get ono of the likeliest damsels of the
land, .as ho will have lots of cash to
keep her up. In his city enterprise
Mr. Wingcrt is his assistant.
Mr. J. S. Davenport has for salo the
finest collection of house-plants wo ever
saw. They are potted in little pails,
and his place is fragrant with the deli
cious perfume of thoPC beautiful chil
dren of Nature. James is very tasty,
and knows how to make his place at
