' IN MEMOEIAM.
i. X. Dann died March 5th, 1882, at Los Angeles,
California,
He dicd'at lastt"God's command.
And passed away in a summer land,
And stranger gathered about hit gravis
Womanhood gcnUe'and manhood brave.
And tlity piled it thick with tmrhled.f;oueni;
The rcses and buds they, fell in sltowcrs,
And an incense filled ths sunny air
As sacred and sweet an an angel' prayer;
It seemed Quit death liad lot it sting,
Fo rare and rich the wreaths they brintr.
And the Tery stars that twinkled above
Reemed mild and gentle as woman's love,
It showed the world was all akin
When the simoom death th his blast whirled in;
We are brothers all, and one by ne,
We shall vanliih like lart ray of the sun.
But tlia t-un stiall rue another morn,
And we shall awake, and again be born
Another life "hall possess us then,
Not transient life of the sons of men.
Our friend is not dead, his spiritlbas H-en,
And fr.e like a bird from his earthly prison;
Tin only his form the grave contains.
It could not bind his soul with its chains;
He passed like electric current through;
All that we did he was knowing to,
The part that could know and think and feel
Was the part that Death could never steal;
Death stole the caket to capture the gem,
- The anjjels took it away with them,
And left him alone in his aujrer grim,
Tills was notJewel e'er nieul for him.
Dear friends they are left to 'weep and deplore,
In a fairer land on a greener shore
Tour lost one youTl greet in the tliT.e to come.
The lips'of the dead will not always be' dumb.
"The resurrection and the life "
Is the rainbow over the deadly strife.
When we drain .of grief thcdeepet cup,
A wnisjer comes, "There's.a lifting up."

TO A FADED FLCEJl,
I gaze upon this faded flower,
Worthless to other eyes.
But ask me not its hidden jower;
Why I so highly prize. .
I know it seems a worthless thing.
Faded and withered too;
- But the memory It doth brinj
To toe is ever new.
' To me its beauty Still remain.
Each lovely tint and shade.
And these it ever will retain.
To me it ne'er will.fade.
The sweet and delicate perfume
It had so long ago,
- Still seems to linger in my room,
Although it's gone, I know.
Gone like the little sunny face.
That was so dear to me.
That gently came to me to plars
This flower upon my kr'ce:
It has a silent voice of pcT0
Now o'er thin IfesoC Of mifi "
' The hand that made, and gave V.is flower.
