D. Palmer is one of the best

foes. Surely it is a good sign when even

The Telegram and the Xeics are grand
competitors in the race of prosperity.
Both of them are splendid papers. The
Xews has grown to grand proportions
like stately palm in a region where it
was thought there was only sustenance
for one mammoth Paper.
L. F. Chemin, the man that makes
our rollers Is a Philadelphian of Revolu
tionary descent, though he wears a name
of French origin. He is a gentleman,
and we were pleased to form his ac
quaintance. He is master of his pro

Mr. Frank Perry ami wife and M?3
Hildcrgoss were at the theatre in Port
land on Tuesday night to witness the
Russian play of Siberia which was ren
dered will! great effect afidj beauty. The
play was hugely sensational, and very
interesting as a picture of the present
ti fries in Russia.
In the play of Michael StrogofT, Phil-
pott, the cockney correspondent was a
grand hit, and brought down the house
by his blasted assumption. The capa
cious appetite of this Johnny Bull left
the Hungry Man from Frogmore far in
the shade.
Francis and Willie Miles earnest to
visit the Printing Office on Tuesday.
Francis Miles has returned from East of
the Mountains; says tle Columbian

from home, and many others think the

Mrs; Stickles saw KateLoulin in Port
land. She wft$ just married to a half
breed, Brewer by name. She said they
were finely dressed, and intend to mako
their borne at New Tacoma. Brewer
was extremely good looking.
When we went up on Monday on the
Kellogg there was a greatj emigration of
Chinamen at Rocky Point These Chi
nam'en had cleared thci track of the R.
R. of brush, and were destined for some

Mr. Gill, Superintendent of the Sab
bath School as the Bay schoolhouse, says
it is a success as the house is crowded to
overflowing every Sunday.'
