To-day was the saddest ever witnessed
in Georgia. Susan Ebhart, age 19 was
hanged. She was convicted on tDe29th
of May last as the accomplice ot Enoch
F. Spann in tha murder of his wife on
the 4th of May, 1872.

she did in connection with the murder
was written yesterday, and will be pub
lished. In it she says she dif nothing
except r being present and handing
Spann a haudtkerphfef when he called
for it to fill his wife's mouth. She
states that she arose from a bed and
accompanied him, being held by the
hand, at his command and compulsion
and through fear, and that she begged
and entreated him not to kill his
wife. He said he would if he were
hanged five minutes after, and he
forced her to do what she did.

30 p M. Saturday smoke was seen
issuing from the upper windows of the
house 1150 New Mark.t street, the
first floor and basement of which are
occupied by J. Tallman as a bakery,
the other portion of the building being
rented to various parties. Tho attic
was occu, ied by a man named J. Vhite.
Tillman and one of his journeymen
turned to the upper floor, opened the
dor and extingqihed the firp. On
examination of the attic, tr)ef6 were
found two beds, and on one of them
were found a man and a woman, both
of whose throats wero cut from car to
ear, they lay on a straw mattress which
had been set on fire, and the cords, being
burned off, the bed slat had fallen to
the floor. Tho body of the man lay on
the floor, and a razor was found under
his head, witji which the crime had
been committed, yesterday a portrait
was found in tho attic which led to the
recognition of the murdered woman as

ment has a grand annexation scheme
on hand, and thp acquisition of the
Sandwich Islands is to be the first step
made. I learn from official sources
that a commissioner is about grartiqg
for San Francisco, te arrange the
preliminaries with the King. The
next step will be the formation of a
new state out of that part of Northern
Mexico which contains the old silver
mine, and its annexation to the United
State. This will be brought about
through grants made to the Itosecran's
railroad enterprise, and the Advance
of the Texas Pacific railroad, and by
means of New York capitalists. The
parties are engaged in this who planted
the Lower California railroad, and
madea failure of it; but this time it
will be successful. When Lower Cal
i fornia and the silver State shall have
been annexed, the Government will
turn its eyes elsewhere, and it is
deemed probably jjiat a proposition
will be' made to relieve Great Britain
of its burden of Canada.
