from hia usual "haunts on .Main Street, by one
of; hia friends who was anxious to seo him
on very urgent business. His friend searched
from one end of Main Street to the other, bu
all in vain, no traces of the truant could be
discovered. At length he met another friend
who suggested that Mr. A might in all proba
bility be found at a certain reidenee in which
resided a certain young lady, with whose
charming smile and golden locks he was known
to be terrible cmitten. He accordingly pro
ceeded to the residence referred to, and walks
boldly up the door which after three or four
gentle raps, was opened by the fair daniMjl in
person, who very politely invited him to walk
in. This was to much lor our hero, and after
a few ineffectual attempts to recover from his
embarrassment, he succeeded in ttummcring
out his errand, and upon being informed that
the object of bis .search was not tAtre. he
trembling, bid her good evening, and silently
walked away, revolving in his mind the still
