Ed. JlEruiiLiCAN :
In glancing over your aj;cr ol
March 'id. 1 noticed an article ot four
Columns. Is i li-d Woman's K't:hts,"
over the signature ol Mc M. Ih;d-'oti.
aNot exactly Kubscrihing to the senti
ment, I thought I would briefly give
mine opinion" also. Mr. D.-dsou, after
a few remarks upon the former and
present condition of woman in heathen
and Christian lauds, went back to the
creation of our find parents and their
habitation in the garden of Kderi, quot
ing from Gen. 1, li7 : " So Tied created
man in his own image, in the image of
iod created he him ; male and female
treated ho them." He says tho crea
tion of woman was ' co-crjual or co
extensive with that of man," assuming,
therefore, that they were upon an
equality. So far as their innocence and
purity were concerned they were
doubtless cpual, for God pronounced
them very good. Iu reference to their
physical and mental powers, the divine
historian is silent, and wedo not assume
to be "wise above what is written."
13ut admitting they were equal, does all
men who are born equal always remain
0, even in a legal respect? Mentally,
morally and physically, few if any will
contend that they do. Free moral
Agents determine their own destiny by
the acts of their own choice. Mr. I).
ay-f, ad truly, that God placed man
in the garden of Eden and gave him
permission to eat of all the trees of the
garden except the tree of knowledge of
good and evil, saying, "in the day thou
catest of it thou gha!t surely die." lie
further says, " this command was given
prior to the creation of the woman. lut
notwithstanding the sileuce of the his
tory bearing upon this point, we are of
the opinion that the woman had by
eomc means received a knowledge ot
the orders upon the subject, either from
JVdani. or from God." I am of the
same opinion, as she conceded more than
the Uible records. God lorbado 'eating
the fruit of the tree of knowledge of

an act, passed by competent authority,
remains in force until repealed or ah

man, especially. There arc occasional
mention of her in representative fami
lies as iu Gen. IS. 12, and J Peter il,

require of woman under thegospel dis

unto your own husbands as unto the

the Church ; and he is the savior of
the body. Therefore, as the Church is
subject to Christ, so let the wives be to
their husbands in everything. Kph.

the Golden Rule neutralizes tho hus
