Several tad i;s of town set us "all of a flutter"

. their presence. Call again, laCios, we like to
be seared in that way.

AH bands about the Repctsucas office have
had a g-od tiuii this week feasting on a lot of
nice apples, presented by E. L. D'Lasbniuttt, of
Salt Creek. ' Uncle E l" is a prima shot, and
knows how to hit the right spot, as well in
touching up the printer, as in hunting the wild
heists of the forest.
Injured. On last Saturday, a horse escaped
from its rider in town and started f Jt home
Mr. R. E. Morris, a young man about eighteen
years of age, who was coming in with a team
met the stray horse and jumped out of his
wagon and caught him. The horse reared and
struck Mr. Morris on the lower jaw fracturing
it severely, and knocking out a tooth.
Thariks. Our regords are due to Mr. Cyrus
"Elder, of Johnstown, Pcnn., for a copy of Hon

entertained and instructed by the perual of
this book Mr. Elder, editor of that able pa

town, Penn., has been, and is still, laboring
hard for the interests of the laboring classes,
and deserves credit for the same.
Poetry of the Pacific Mr. W. Woods has
our thanks for a nicely bound volume of
poems with the above title. Mr. W. has on
.hand a supply of these books, which any one
will do well to purchase abA read, who is fond
of poetry. This book contains extracts from
the principal writers of the Pacific coast and is
well worth the money asked. He also has a
stock of lithographs and other pictures, picture
frames, etc., which be offers at very low rates.

. Let it Stop. We publish to-day a corres
pondence from some cf the students of the
Academy, concerning a matter of which we
jtnow nothing but rnmor The affair on Thurs
day, from what we hear of it, was in accord with
fa any other exercises at the same place, very
discreditable and ill -timed. Whatever the f ail -.
logs of Prof. Rutan may be, we have sever
. -beard of him being inebriated or in the least
tinder the influence of liquor. But the less
laid about this matter the better. Both sides
tiave now had their say, and now tee say, ''Let

Rain. A heavy rain storm set" in on Thursday
evening and proved to be one of the severest of
the season. Friday morning the streets were
flooded.
Agent. Mr. Somerville is in town c?v-'8ino
for a new Sabbath-Sohool song book, ViLl1'
ncy'a Musical Guest, and a patent book-binder,
All are good and useful articles.
We call attention to the notice of Dr. Van
Den Bergh . n intends leaving soon for .Eu
gene, and those desiring to consult him will
have' to -bo expeditious.
An Error. We stated last week that Prof.
:Rutan took the lead in the musical exercises at
the Academy last Wednesday. This, we are
informed was a misstatement. Miss Witten.an
accomplished young lady, who is one of the as
sistant teachers in the school, and also teacher of
mime, led the exercises in a creditablo manner.
Not being present, we were forced to rely.upou
information gleaned from others and, perhaps
through our own carelessness, committed an
error.
Important to builders. "Messrs. Fbradfr A
Co., having refitted their mill on the little
Luckiuinute, are prepared to furnish all kinds
of lumberof the best quality at .prices witlnn
tho reach of all. Their facilities for obtaining
good, clear lumber, are unexcelled, and their
machinery for manufacturing cannot be beat in
this part of the country. Parties desiring fin
ishing lumber, cither dressed or undressed, can
be accommodated at any time, and satisfaction
guaranteed.
Enterprise. Our Real Estate Age n't of
Portland seem to be fully alive to the necessity
of furnishing information to Eastern people
concerning our State. None are taking more
interest in -this matter than Wm Davidson. We
have just received from him a map of the N
P. R. R., showing .tho connections and princi
pal points on the route. Mr. Davidson has
published mips and descriptions of Oregon
some of which may be found at our office, and
has taken pains to circulate them extensively
throughout the whole world. Many have baen
published in German, and sent to keep watch
ou the Rhine for stray Immigrants. Such ef
forts are sure to mcettbir reward.
Cruel ! Cruel ! Truly the course of true
love never did run smooth." Ou tho banks of
the beautifuL Yamhill, near Sheridan, lives a
handsome maiden with laughing eyes, rosy
checks, teeth of pearl, auburn locks, and all the
etctterag which make woman lovely. A stranger
came iuto the community. The first sight of
the maiden caused that thrill so thrilling, which
is easier imagined than described. Tunc passed
on; he wroedf and she would ho cooed and
she could ; but when the permission of the
cruel parent was requested, he blanched the
cheek of the maiden and roused the ire ot the
chUf, by a flt rsiual. Cruel parent! Thus to
put rebellious ideas into "Two miud with but
a siuglc thought," and that a thought to unite

So general has the public confidence become in
Dr. Ayer's medicines, and so great the demand
for them, that unprincipled villians try to de
ceive the unwary by imposing upon them their
worthless nostrums under a similarity of name.
Cherry Pectoral Lozenges, Dr. Ayer's Troches,
Aypr's Pastilea for Coughs, Cherry Pectoral
Cough Drops, Ayer's Fever and Ague Cure,
Doct. Ayer's Indian Pills, Ac., Ac, (none of
which are Dr, Ayer's manufacture or composi
tion) are specimens of this viiliany and deceit.
They not only defraud the sick of their money
but of their health, er the recovery of their
health, which is far more important than money.
From actual counterfeits the people are protec
ted by law whieb the Doctor promptly enforces,
but these evasions sometimes elude the law,
and purchasers must protect themselves by re

Dr. R. V, Pierce, of Buffalo, N Y., sole pro
prietor of Dr. Sage's Catarrh Remedy, whose
name is printed on the wrapper of the genuine,
has for over three years offered through nearly
every newspaper in the United States, a stand
ing reward of $500 for a case of Catarrh in the
head which he cannot cure. That he has treat
ed thousands of cases and had no claims pre
sented for the reward, from any one who has
made a thorough use of his means of cure, is
strong and conclusive evidence that he pos
sesses a snre means of curing this loathsome
disease. The Catarrh Remedy is sold by all
druggists, or sent by mail on receipt of sixty
cents.
