DALLAS, SATURDAY, DEC. 30.
Is Not the Devil In the Win Cup!
FOR TH8 OREGOX REPUBLICAN.
She cam to me I cast her out ;
My wu'e, who had on my bosom lain ;
With curse and with maddening about,
And diunken leer, I cried, go out S
Go out, go out into the nifiht !
The etorm it crushed the very trees
One long wail a cry of fright
The wind it bccuis round all things freeze
The day it dawned, and 'neath a kiln,
Half cowering, sat, in beauty still,
Eleanor, dead on her pale cheek
A froien tear drop seemed to speak ;
Tears of entreaty, begging me
To Gall her back to me, to me !
Me who had, with the devil's will,
And Devil's passions, fiercer still,
Called out by poison, which I ruaCTd,
As loud, in revelry, I laughed.
But when I saw her, cold and dead,
Tho demon, sneering, from me fled,
And left me writhing would I were dead !

I'm glad we have wood in; store awhile,
For soon we must shut thej door awile,
As winterly winds may rr awhile,
And scatter the whirling snow.
The swallows have now all hied away,
And most of the flowers have died away,
And boughs, with their leaves all dried away,
Are wind-beaten to ana iro.
Your walks in the ashtree groves'aro cold,
Your banks in the timbered groves aro cold,
Your seats in the garden coves are cold,
Where sunheat did lately glow.
No rosebud is blooming red to-day,
No pink for yonr breast or your head to-day,
O'erhanging the garden bed to-day,
Is noddiug its sweet head low.
No more is the swinging lark above j
And airfovcrclouded dark above
So baffles the sun's last spark above,
That shadows no longer show.
So now let your warm cheek bloom to-night,
"While fire-flames heat the room to-night,
Dispelling theflickering gloom to nfht,
While winds of the winter bluw.

Dr. J. P. P. Va? Dm IJrnon -Dear Sr : I
deem it my duty f make the following state
ment : For the la.it three years I have been
suffering with constant gnawing tain and a
quivering sondrtfion in my stomach, also pain
in my chest and heart, my food would not di-
fest and I was so nervous that with diGculty
could follow my occupation, which, has been
here in aliu for tho past ten years, as a prao
tieal dentist. In fact from the constant pain
and misery I had wasted away to a mere skel
eton. I had bi-cn doctoring a great deal with
out any benefit, and believing there was no
help for me but to linger on Until death would
relieve all niy suffering. Borne of my friends
thought I had worms and had better boo Dr.
Van Den Dergh. Ito told me at once that
worms wero the cause of all my troubles, o he
gave me 6 small ami tasteless powders and in 4
hours about 70 worms, Irorn one inch to one
and one half inches long, caatneaway from mo
that day, and the following night some moro
came, and now I am happy, to say I feel like
another man again, and am gaining strength
from day to day. II. SMITH, ii. D.
Salem, Oregon, Sept. 23d, 1871.
Another Groat Slaughter I
Wo think it our duty to make the follrwlog
statement iu hopes it may do some good to sick
children : Our child had been sick for sorao
time. Thinking all the time our little one was
troubled with worms we tried many doctors and
a great many remedies without any relief,
Some neighbors told us wo should go and try
Dr. Van Den llergh, the worm doctor in Salem,
We did so and he gave us one hotttle of his
celebrated Worm Syrup, and after giving the
medicine, to our great astonishment about 800
wotms passed away from our dear child, aad
now, thank heaven rhe is well again.
