Is it a Sin to I.ove Thee t
, BY A. K. 0.?
. Js it il si t love tboe.? -
Tftenniy soul, is deeply dyed; . ....
; For tuy lite'a-blood as it gushes,
' ? '" Takes its crimson from love's tida;
""And I feci its wave roll o'er me,
1 And the blushes mount ray brow,
' ' And my pulses quicken wildly,
' As tbe lcve -dreams come and go.
I feel my spirit's weakness ;
I know ray spirit's power;
I have felt iuy proud heart struggle,
Id jlfuiptation's trying hour ;
Vet amid the din of conflict",
' 'IVndinff o'er HFo'j hallowed shrine,
Yielding, all my sonl has murmured,
., , I am thine, for ever thine.
J.i it a. fin to love thee ?
What! wWe existence worth,
JittMt of all of Heave u j
That Kngars still on earth ?
Friendship shinea like gleams of sunlight,
1' Slied their gilding o'er the heart,
Bui thef foul sfilt cries for something '
; 1 f More, thau friendship can impart.
i iFroaen wirt8,liko i(ebound eyries,
That no suuiutcr ray ean melt.
Vainly boast their power to conquer
; 5 What their henrt3 have never felt.
But I envy not their glry,
Mjd the rap tu rt t hat is mine,
Wbea with, earnest sou! 1 tell thee,
I auttlibe, forever thine.
J it ft sin to love thee? ;
Gentlo voices round me fall,
And I press warm hearts about me,
But I've given thee my all ;
What though stern fate divide,
'And hinds, not hearts, are riven ;
, jHy.aHoCiparth thvu hast -wilt uuwre ?
' fdare not offer heaven. " '
Yet in same blwsed moment
. When our dark -eyes, flashing, meet,
When I feel thy power so rear iae
11 " Feel thy heart's fjuiek pulses beat
Then I know; may God torsive moj
I would everything resigu ;
- All I have, or all I hope for,
To be thine, for ever thine.
Is it a Bin to love theo h ,
I remember well t'a hour,
,When we vowed our love to conquer,
To resist temptation's power;
When I felt my heart was breaking,
And my all of life wa gone,
, When I wept the hour I met thee,
' And the hour that 1 was born.
But ajiidden storm was raging,
And amid the muflied din,
I flung my arms around thee.
Forgetting it was sin :
Close pressed apon thy bosom.
-itUV. With thy warm hand claspad in mine,
I smiled through tears and murmured,
I am thine, for ever thine.
Is it a sin to love thee ? , ,
With love's signet on thy brow,
Though thy lot be dark as hades,
I'll cling to thee as now ;
t Not mine the heart to fail tbee,
vWnen other cheeks grow pale.
We ba?e shared the storm together,
I'n stand by thee through the gale.
t , Though our barks may drift asunder,
j JYtwith true hearts beating high,
' Let tbe golden sunlight cheer us,
; Or the angry storm-clouds fly.
From our helms, with steady brightness,
Our beacon light shall shine,
And the watchwords on our penon3
Shall be, thine for ever thine. '
Is it a sin to love thee ?
When I bend the knee in prayer,
And before a high Omniscience,
My burdened heart lay bare,
On the breath of love to heaven,
I -Ascends thy blessed name,
And I'll plead weak, erring nature,
: If loving thee be shame. ; f r
Heaven knows 'tis no light sacrifice
I've offered up to thee ;
Ko golden dream of fancy,
' But my being's destiny.
Since our fate we may not conquer hers,
Divide thy lot from mine,
fn the starlit world above us,
Call me thine, for ever thine.
