Mr. G. W. Riggs, who hasjuit returned from
Goose Lake, informs-us that there are about

Our Foreman is in the highest glee. His
family, consisting of a wifo and three children,
has just arrived -fr. ra the East. Mr3. S. ex
presses herself well pleased with the country ;
and as for Mr. S.. while he has more " forms to
press," and will have a double nse for his
"coin," yet we trust he will not lota his powers
of" composition," but will always be ready for
the " case."
We learn Lorn Mr. R. Rooten, that Messrs,
Davis, Woods and Clark, parties who went from
here to Pitt River last spring, with stock, could
find no location in that part to xuit them, and
JVIr. Davis located on Link river. Mc. srs.
"Woods and Clark, the last heard from were in
XJooso Lake country, talking of going to Eas
tern Oregon. We would not be much surprised
to hear any time they were on their way back
to Webfoot.
Concert. Mr. and Mrs. McGibeney favored
Abe citizens of Dallas with one of their musical
.-entertainments last Friday night. They fully
sustained the rcpatation, they have long en
joyed of being np w.th the times in their pro
fession. The programme was Interspersed with
pieces well calculated to rouse the mirthful
propensities, and others to please the taste of
the most fastidious. Amused, entertained and
instructed, the audience were reluctant to leave
when the exercises were over,but clustered round
the platform to extend congratulations, and
press upon the Prof, and bis Lady an unaDi
jnious invitation to agaia visit Dallas at their
darkest convenience, which they promised to do.
S. C. Stiles has removed his harness aud
saddlery shop to Stiles' new building, up stairs,
where he is roady to furnish everything iu his
line.
W. n, Catterlin hereby informs the public
that he would like to secure a place Tor one of
his daughters, aged 11 years, in a good family
having no small children, and living in or
close to some town where she could have ad
vantages for school in.
Lincoln. During a sh rt visit to the town of
Lincoln, we were pleased to notice tho evidence
of thrift and eiit-rprise which everywhere
abounded, Abram A C. ure doing u good
business in the mercantile line. A lare saw
mill is in full bla.it, a gristmill is being built,
and will soon be roady for business. Luro
amounts of grain are be'ng stored there, and
the piospects for tho future nro fine.
Real Enterpiiisb. Win. Davidson, Eso.
Estate Agent, of Portland, has placed the
Cin'xtltn Alternate under obligation to him for
a copy of the list of premiums for the Oregon
State Fair, to be held at Salem, October next.
Mr. Davidson exhibits a real enterprise, worthy
of all commendation, by circulating far and
near, whatever of public documents he believes
will do good, and accommodate the peoplo of
this growing State. Jay Cooke & Co, ackoow
edge through a letter to Mr. Davidson, their
obligations for his valnble maps, and promise
in return to do all they can to develop Portland
and Oregon and Washington Territory.
Inventions and improvements seem to bo the
order of the day. Among tho many improve
ments in agricultural implements the Travel
ing Thresher of. the Bobbins Bros., of this
county, seems to Lid fair to take a front rank.
The old thrashing time," which was a dread
to all the farmers' wives is one of the ills of
life that hae been, or soon will be, entirely
done away with, and the harvest will bo nccom.

men are all that aro needed to take the gr;iiu
standing in the fiellMin l put it into sacks. We
saw the machine, running on Thursday last,
and can testify to the tact tli3t it works as
speedily, and does its work as well us any of
the stationary machines. With cght horses
attached, it runs by the side of, and thrashes
the grain from, a header with a ten foot sickle.
Eighteen acres a day has been eut and
thrashed. Wo are firmly of opinion, that ere
long this machine will supercede all others of
this nature.
