Inconstant t Oh, My God I
Inconstant. ! when a single thought of thee
Send all iny shivering blood
Back on ray heart in thrills of ecstacy !
Inconstant! when to feel
That thou hast loved me wilt love to the last,
Is joy enough to steal -
All fear from life -the future and the past.
Inconstant ! when to sleep
And dream that thou art near me, is to learn
So vauch- of Heaven, I weep
Because the earth aud morning must return.
Inconstant ! Ah, too true
Turned from the rightful shclterofthy breast,
My tired heart flutters through
The changeful wrtd a bird without a neat.
Inconstant to the crowd
Through which I pas, as to the skies above
The fickle summer's cloud ;
But nottc thee 0 not to thee, dear love !
I may be false to all
On earth besides, and every tender tio
'Which seems to hold in thrall
This weary life, may be a lie ;
But, true as God's own truth,
My steadfast heart turns backward evermore
To that sweet time of youth
Whose golden tide beat such a barren shore.

Inconstant ! Not my own
The hand which bulldtt this wall between our
On its cold shadow grown lives;
To perfect shape, the flower of love survives.
Qod knows that I woul t give
AH other joy the sweetest and the best,
For one short hour to live
Close to thy heart its comfort and its rest! .
But life is not all dark ;
. The sunlight goldens many a hidden slope ;
The dove shall find it j ark
Of peaceful refuse aud of patient hope.
I yet shall be possessed
Of woman's need, my swaH world set apart,
Pomo, love, protection, rest,
And children's voices singing thro my heart
By God's help I will be
A faithful mother and a tender wife
Perhaps even more, that lie

EFFECTS OF LAUGHING Ci AH-A
Youn Lady Made Insane by It.
From the Cincinnati Commercial.
A lady in Cumminsvillo ias been
showing signs of insanity for several
days. She would run her servant girl
put of the house, and threaten her
with destruction occasionally. Her
husband is a stair builder, and was the
most affectionate and indulgeut spouse
towards his wife possible, but it was
found necessary to have a lady living
close by to attend to her and keep her
Company for fear she might commit
some serious injury. Yesterday it was
found necessary to apply to the Court
for a certificate of her insanity, and
convey her to Longvlew. It required
the combined strength cf four men to
put her in the carriage at Cununiusville,
and she uttered the most heart-rending
criea for her two children, whom she.
left behind. In her frantic efforts in
the morning with her husband, who
was trying to pacify her, she tore his
shirt wto bhreds. It was a sad scene
to witness this poor woman, who only
a few weeks ago, had enjoyed -her
reason, tied hand aud foot in a close
carriage, and taken to the Institution
at Carthage.
The insanity of this unfortunate
young lady is attributed to the use of
laughing gas, which was administered
to her a few weeks ago by a stupid
k'Qtist in the city, who extracted a few
pf her teeth. She was of a very
pervous temperament, and when it was
found that the nitrous oxide had pro
duced an injurious effect, a potion was
administered to quiet her nerves,
which, however, had no beneficial re
sult, Since that time she has been
growing wort c daily; aud this, coupled
with the fact that she had been
troubled with the unsolicited attentions
pf certain religious fanatics, pressing
her to join, their church, and have her
children educated in the faith of their
peculiar religion, no doubt caused her
insanity.

something less than half a peck of flies
were "hived." The butcher was pleas

trapped, he didn't want the machine.
