DALLAS, SATURDAY, APRIL 23.
r.yi -.I Monetary. ' ;
. From the San Francisco Commercial
Herald we clip! the following para
graphs concerning monetary and com-
.mercial matters of the United States,'
ior the year 18G9 :
"Our exports ; of treasure to Great
-Britain amounted to 45,000,000, in
:4863 f $70,000,000, in 1804, $13,
.000,000, in 1865: 54,000,000, in
.1806; $27,000,000, in 1807 ; $13A
.000,000, in 18G8; and only $19,000,
,000, in 1869. In the meantime, the
. production of gold f and - silver has
scarcely undergone any decrease dur
dDg the years named, hut our bonds
have taken the place of treasure ship

foreign capitalists, while the gold has
remained here for home use. Our
.treasure shipnientsto France decrease!
.from $20,000,000, in 18G3, to $9,700r
,000, in I860, or, little more than one
talf. " Our dealings with Germany
show a decreased treasure export of
nearly $7,000,000 since 18GS. The
'total exports" of treasure to all couu-
,. tries during the year 1G9, amounted
4to $42,900,000, against $84,000,000
.in 18G8 a difference of $41,000,000.
v These figures are all civen in round
.numbers. The total imports of treas
.lire for 1809 was j $19,000,000 against
$14,000,000 in I8G8. We therefore
-made a total gain of over $42,000,000
last year, as compared with the year
.previous.
The table-showing the value of total
imports from, and exports to, all coun
tries trading with the United States,
gives the amouns of imports for 1SG9
.at $437,300,000, against $371,000,000
! for 1808, and the total exports of do
mestic products at 8413 900,000 for
,1869, against $45 1,SQ9,000 in 18G8. 1
This table does not incladeour exports i
J. of treasure, and shows that the balance
of -trade against us for last year
amounted to $23,400,000. Our trade
.with China and Japan shows marked j
increase. In 1868, our imports from ;
those countries amounted to $13,300,
J00Q, and our domestic exports to $10,
300,000. In 1SG9, the imports rose
Ao $16,400,000, and our domestic ex
ports to $13,000,000.
From January to October, 18G8, the !
number of American vessels engaged j
in foreign trade, and entered in the
Custom House of the United Stntns.
mounted to8,817, representing 2,218,
280 tons; while the number of foreign
vessels entered during the same period
-was 15,500,- representing 4,065,081
tons. For a like period of 1809, the
number of American vessels entered
wa 8j767,.xerrescniing 2,879,008 tens,
r showing a decrease from the preced
ing year. , The number of foreign ves

- A New Discovery with Corn.
An intelligent and reliable neighbor of

consequence, but this gentleman says
it is of so mueh consequence he re
plants whether it is needed or notor
rather, ho plants two or three weeks
after the crop is planted, a hill about
every fifteenth row each way. He says:
'If tire weather becomes dry during
the filling time, the silk and tassel both
become dry and dead. In this condi
tion if it should bceomo seasonable,
the silk revives aud renews its giowth,
hut the tassel docs not recover: Then,
f r want of pollen, the silk is unable
to fill the office for which it was de
signed. The pollen from -the replanted
corn is then ready to supply the silk,
and 4I10 filling is completed." He
says nearly all the abortive ears, so
common in all corn crops, is caused
hy'want of pollen, and that he has
known ears to double their size in this
pecond filling. Ex. '
' A novel event occurred in Boston
pn'Saturday, in the United States Com
missioner's Court. A woman living in
' that city lost her -husbandf in the re
bellion, and since that time she has
been constantly in the receipt of State?
aid. - Recently it cinno to the knowl
"edge of some of the 'court officials that
she had. since married, and, as such an
pvenjt would deprive her of her pen
sion, a warrant was obtained for her
arrest for obtaining money under false
pretences. She was brought: before
the Commissioner, when evidence was
put in to the effectual she had' never
been married to the man with whom
she lived. On this representation, Col.
Nettleton, Assistant District Attorney,
on behalf of the government,' offered
to not pros, the ease, on condition that
tlie'twq should be mado one forthwith.
This waa agreed to, and the Attorney,
acting' in his official capacity of justice
of the peace, married! the couple. They
left the court together.
