The Oregonian says fifty-two of the
eighty children at The Home are down
with the measles and it Is "taking' on

sisted in auditing bills for the past
quarter. The companies of the First
regiment were allowed in the aggregate

allowance of the Second regiment is to
be Included $200 for the uniforms of the
Regimental band, und $300 for the
uniforms for company K. The loard
made a ruling that discharges froiu the

The only counties of the state which
have not made a remittance of some kind

Wednesday morning and getting a
sudden view of Main street, would have
thought the railroad that will be built
from this place into the coal fields near
the head-waters of Dairy creek, was
being constructed through our town.
Ten or fifteen men were at work on Main j
street with shovels, wheelbarrows, new
brooms, etc., as early as 7.:J in the
morning. That part of Hillsboro now
presents a neat appearance. j

It takes money to swcc-fully con
duct a newspaper. A large amount is
due this office, and we must have the
money in order to meet our bills. Every
subscriber indebted to this office should
make an effort to pay up at once. Unless
there is a general response prior to May
1st, the special rateof $1.50 per annum
will be absolutely discontinued. We
have said a great deal upon this question
in the past, but now mean business. We
are getting tired of "standing off bills"
and at the same time carrying on our
books double the amount needed to
balance accounts. This request also
applies to the payment of amounts due
on advertising and job work.

There is no truth in the report cir
culated upon the streets of town last
week, stating that Mr. W. II. Millar, of
Farmington, had suddenly dropped dead
from heart disease. The story rapidly
grew, but could !e traced to no reliable
source. We now have positive informa
tion to the effect that the error originated
in the sad death of Mr. Everson, and the
relationship existing between the families
of Millar and Everson, might give rise to
a misunderstanding. Mr. Isaac Everson,
a son of the deceased, is married to one
of Mr. Millar's daughters.
Rer. L. L. Conrardy, of Umatilla
reservation, has decided to go to the
relief of Father Damien, the apostle r
the lepers, in the island of Molokai,
Sandwich Island. The reverend father,
having received permission from Arch
bishop Gross, has been waiting for some
time to be relieved as Indian missionary
on the reservation and now that his
place is supplied by two young priests,
he was in Portland last week, en route
for Molokai, the home of the poor lepers
to whom he projtoscs to consecrate we
may add, sacrifice his life. Father
Damien is now so badly afflicted with
i lepro-y that he cannot use his hands and
has been compelled to desist from nil
ministering sacrament.
