Spring has come, heralded by der

breast of dormant nature and causes the
farmers and our readers throughout the
land to rejoice.

Virr,
The -time decided uxn for holding
county convention for the purjose of
electing delegates to the state convention
has been fixed by the republican party of
this county, and such convention will be
held at the court house iu Hillsboro on
Saturday, April 7, 1888, at 11 o'clock
a. m.
Primaries will be held at the polling
places in I I:e several pre tnc?s n hatur. !
day, March 'l. l-" 1 r. m. I
It will not be Jor. p'rer 1 1 e r:,i. t I

ries to elect delegate to the county
convention to nr.uiinate candidate for
the several county offices and members
of the legislature.
In view if thii 1'w.t, we believe it rtht
and proper that peicri3 seeking nomina
tion should come out lold! y au J declare
themselves subject to the will of the
people. If a man is competent for the
position sought, he need not hesitate to
make his wishes known. Th day of
"black horses," especially in county
matters, is among the things of the
past. No man has ever lost friend or
impaired his prospects for securing nomi
nation by a clear, manly statement. In
this age of enlightened penetration, the
people have a strong distrust and un
mistskable disgust for the human "log-
trotter,"who scours the county trying to
create the impression that he is the only
eligible and honest man that n given
position may 1 "thrust tijon."
This is a matter of duty with candi
date. In many counties of the state,
ami throughout the coast, the public
expects such announcements and they
are generally made.
With us, this is a business quetion,
and any man of any party may announce
himself a a candidate for any office on
snv ticket.
