Wash., town council, in a spasm

Yaotina, Dec. 11. Yesterday
as the Willamette Valley wa9
coming north she sighted the
steam schooner Maggie Ross
about 32 miles south and 10 west
of Yaquinu, apparently in dis
tress, she lowered one of her boats
and made fast to the schooner and
towed her into Yaquina Bay where
search was instituted no one was
found aboard but one dead man.
The cabin and boats were gone
and the smoke stack was
on deck, me schooner w
about 13 tons registered and load
ed with lumber, the bull was
supposed to be all right,
The Maggie Roes was loaded
with lumber and sailed from Coos
bay last Monday. All her deck
load of lumber was gone when she
was found together with her
smokestack and part of her cabin.
She was a most dilapida'ed-look-ing
vessel when she was towed in
this morning, ahd shows evidence
of having received s me hard
knocks by the storm. It is not
known whether the Ross carried
any passengers or not, or what was
the number of her crew. There
were no marks of violence on the
body of the sailor found, and
nothing to indicate how he had
come to his death. A hurried ex
amination of the schooner this
morning seemed to show her hull
was all right, and all the damage
she sustained was confined to her
upper works.
