Pen novel's house on the coiner of
Lincolu ami Water streets had a
narrow escape from burning early
this morning. An alarm was rung

fire was on the roof. It was ex
tinguished without much loss.

Thrown from a Horse and Killed.

S. Fmerv. night clerk of the West
ern Union telegraph office, of this
city, was thrown last night from
an unmanageable horse against
the pole of a wagon with which
his horse had collided, and was so
